Jeremy Pruitt ... Steve Spurrier?

Yeah, see, that whole "this isn't about coaching" warning that I intentionally opened the thread with? That was for you.

This isn't about coaching. :)
Dude, your life is narrow, if that's all that matters to you.

Lighten up, enjoy your family, crack a joke, laugh at someone else's. Talk about movies. Read a book. Learn how to play the guitar.

There's more out there.
Now I thought these were funny,I cracked a smile.

I think Saban is hilarious, as is Steve Spurrier. Pruitt is cool in his own way, and I’m sure that will progress with time.
Saban is hilarious in that dead pan, dry sense of humor way, the best kind imo.
Spurrier is a total smart ass, also funny.
Pruitt reminds me much more of Saban.
As for the accents, Spurrier is straight up East Tennessee, Pruitt is more in line with West Tennessee.

Okay, this isn't about coaching. It's about public speaking. Speaking with a microphone in your face.

Watch Jeremy closely for a few pressers and coach shows. See if he doesn't remind you a bit of Steve Spurrier.

Not just the accent, though that contributes. And not just the innate knowledge of the game, either. And not just a willingness to speak frankly about how well a player did and what he can improve on. And not just the barely-hidden annoyance at what they think are dumb questions.

There's a shared sense of humor there, too. It's hard to see right now, because Pruitt doesn't have a lot to crow about. But you can sense it bubbling just under the surface, waiting to come out.

They've got a lot in common, I think, in how they interact with the media. Especially if you imagine Spurrier dialed down a notch or two with a quaalude. :)

Anyway, watch close next time CJP is on. See if you see it, too.

Don't see it at all. I think Spurrier loved being in front of the camera.

CJP hates it. If he could I think he'd put an OC/DC out there haha. Don't believe me? Watch his the sleeve of the right arm in the white polo he wore on his coaches show. It shakes the whole time! Because his arm is resting on his leg which is constantly shaking.

1. I don't think he feels comfortable in front of a camera
2. He'd rather be on the field or in the film room making his team better. So he's chomping at the bit to get the show taped and get back to work.

I have no problem with #1 and I love #2.

As long as he doesn't abandon his team in the middle of the year when things aren't going well, then I have no problem with him being a Spurrier type.
As long as he consistently stacks up 10-11 win seasons, wins 6 or 7 SEC titles and a natty and winds up being a HOF coach, I have no problem with him being a Spurrier type.

I like the way Pruitt talks to the media. Very refreshing to hear an actual human insteadof a talking cliche robot.

If Pruitt gets us out of this 10+ year funk, winning the East, and competing for SEC titles, he can be the biggest prick on the planet and I will not care.

Saban is a smart ass. At the start of their first game a reporter asked Saban who was going to start at QB. He turned and looked at the clock on the scoreboard and said "You have waited this long you can wait another 18 seconds". The press should stop trying to interview this egomaniac. Once he sees no one outside the state of AL cares what he has to say maybe he will act like he has some class. I doubt it but he might.

I don't think they have that much in common other than that they are both Southerners, both have great football minds, and both have far exceeded their natural talent playing football.

Spurrier was always cocky as hell. He had a swagger about him and wasn't afraid to trash-talk opponents.

Pruitt comes more from the Saban-school of talking your team down so they'll focus on the mistakes and improving themselves. He'll say nice things occasionally, but ultimately, he doesn't want a bunch of 18 - 23 year old men getting big heads.
