Jeremy Pruitt Monday Press Conference Notes
-I thought it was the first time we played with good effort throughout the game.
-For the first time all year we executed. We had a chance to finish right but had a couple fourth quarter fumbles.
-Missouri is 6-4 but are a rain game at SC and a couple penalties against KY from being 8-2, and they've played the two best teams in the league better than anyone. They're well coached. They've been good against the run and have good pass rushers. We need to improve this week and eliminate mistakes we made this past Saturday. We have to find some way to get to the QB and stop the run.
-On senior day: Most of these guys have graduated but the others are graduating this semester. That's why most came here, to get a degree. In the last 11 months they've really bought in and done what we asked. We're thankful for that.
-We've done lots of things that a good football team doesn't do. We have too many penalties, fumble the ball, pitch the ball on an interception with 2 minutes to go. There are some lessons we can learn.
-We're focused on trying to improve and learn from the mistakes we made Saturday.
-Defensively we did a really good job of keeping the QB in the pocket. We kept our edges. We weren't perfect but our guys played hard defensively and tackled better. Still a lot of negative plays offensively, whether we had the wrong splits outside, missed a block or the QB read the wrong side of the field.
-On Thompson he got his bell rung, but I'm not a doctor. I saw him today and he was fine.
-On Darrell Taylor: Twice they didn't block him. You need to sack the QB when that happens. Other times we had them in third and long. It's much easier to rush the QB when they're one dimensional. He has some ability, but I've been harping on him all year about consistency.
-How do you get the O-line more consistent: We need to limit mistakes and be in the right looks. Some of it has to be with the backs hitting the right holes.
-Over ten games we've been really different. Some we played the right way and some we didn't. We're still searching for a four-quarter game.
-On defense some of it is learning to strain. Some times some of it is how the other team plays can change how you think.
-The only way to get better is to repeatedly do it over and over, extra practices and and extra game would give us that. It gives you a chance to improve.
-Missouri is very balanced. Derek has done a fantastic job. They've protected the QB and have a lot of experience up front. We'll have to play well to have a chance.
-The first thing to learn about the offense is who they are, what's their personnel, favorite plays and who their best play makers are.
-Some of the guys I work with have a whole lot of respect for Derek Dooley. I've watched what they're doing on offense and he's doing a really good job.
-In the secondary we need to clean up technique. Guys were open in the back end on some plays where we were able to get pressure. We've just got to work on fundamentals and play the ball.
