Jeremy Pruitt inherited a broken culture

Then it's on him for keeping a bunch of quitters on the roster. FWIW, the team quit on Butch when it became apparent that he was getting fired. Maybe those players were signaling the fanbase to expect another change?
He cuts em loose in April and hes and idiot for letting players go when the roster has no talent or depth on it to begin with. Keeping them or cutting them isnt changing the quality of a 5 or 6 win roster much.

It's not worth much. He didnt recruit these players. Some have accepted the change and have bought in others havent.

I ll stick by my orginal point.

I see some fans like to punish themselves. You might as well just be upset bro because that's a pipe dream. This team will be FreshmanU next year. 6-6 buddy.
It’ll be tough to get to 6 next year. I can see 5-7 again easily

Man, we have been through 3 coaches (not counting CJP) all have said the exact same thing. Look UT isn't an elite program and hasn't been for some time. Everybody can't be wrong. UT has lived with signing project players and the blue-chip players we do sign seem to never develop past high school. We will be in the bottom half of the SEC next year as well so either come to peace with that or become a passive fan. I don't say this to be negative I say this because I'm sure like me there are better things you can worry about because this situation won't fix itself anytime soon.

You don’t follow recruiting much do you..... lol

Doubtful we should have won more than 6 this year. Next year with an actual full year of S&C and defensive and offensive schemes (barring Helton stays) we should win more then 6. There will be a lot more speed on the field on both sides of the ball.

I sadly have this mental image of SMU going through this exact thought process over and over, year after year.....

Lyle should have beat SC to win the SECE and go to the Sugar Bowl.

Dooley should have beat LSU.

The AD should have not f’d up the coaching hire(s).

Should doesn’t mean squat.

Lol you are right. Hmm. Guess we “should” all just stop posting.... you know because having a normal discussion about how the team “should” progress from this year to next year, now that the coaches and staff will have over a year in the program, is frowned upon....

I’m just saying. There’s a lot of should haves the last 10+ years and this is where we’re at. It just sucks

Like it or not those are fair goals. Coaches put up or shut up by year 2 if they’re the right guy. It’s been proven time and time again.
So you expect us to take a team that just beat us by 4 TD's and turn around and beat them next year by 50.? That's a fair goal?

Tennessee is supposed to have good kids, kids who do well in the classroom, do well in the community, etc.

Good kids dont become "cancers" in the locker room, fight with their teammates, refuse to do what their coaches expect of them on the field, play selfishly.

Fulmer better drop the season tix prices next season or I have a feeling they are going to set an all-time low for season ticket sales in 2019. $65/ ticket forETSU and Charlotte and $135/ticket for FL and Bama games makes me feel like I was robbed

When was the last time you ever saw prices go down? It's not going to happen and the trend toward not going to college football games will continue, not just here but everywhere.

I keep seeing this posted, but I'm don't see it. Other than dropping WV for BYU, it's very similar. Mississippi State is better than Auburn, especially on defense.
Auburn will look completely different next year if they get Bryant. (An actual QB for that system)

BYU is the main reason, but we also have State at home( Home games didn't change much this year but its a factor) Also, they will have a new QB which is another factor. UK shouldn't be as good as they lose some key pieces, and Mizz loses Drew Lock. It is definitely and easier schedule and we avoid LSU and A&M.

I have to agree that he did inherit a bunch of losers. He was in a no win situation to begin with. It was a come in and totally change the culture and not get full buy in. Or come in and coddle them and still not get 100% from them. We all knew coming into this year that the ceiling was probably 6*6. It sucks that we had a shot to be there until the loser mentality set in. He has his work cut out for him the next 2 years to get some real players in the program.

Well you were robbed. Been getting robbed for 10+ years. The fans have been loyal to a fault and that's been taken full advantage of..Ah they'll sell out the early year games that mean something. The rest 75 80% is about all they'll be able to hope for. Doubt it will be that high for some games. It is what it is. They're going too have to finally fix the product or i'm afraid Tennessee won't be setting any attendance records anytime soon.

Yea but it’s also a numbers game. Theres a certain amount players needed to fill a roster.

A different coach probably would have gotten more out of this roster, which probably would've made the difference against SC and VU and made the blowouts bit more respectable. The lack of effort is directly tied to the coaching. CJP is not going to sign a class full of elite prospects after this shizshow of a season. He will not win without elite talent. Only question now is whether Fulmer falls on the sword in a couple of years to try and buy CJP one more season, or does Fulmer get another chance to hire a hfc?

I think this is the single biggest challenge. It’s not x/o system or recruiting rankings. We have drifted so far where 8-4 is a great season. We still haven’t beaten a top 10 team since 2006, and haven’t been ranked in the top 10 since 2001. In short, we are irrelevant.

A major reason is that our leadership thought we were immune to rock bottom. Pre-Dooley it had been about 100 years since back to back losing seasons. Now we’ve had streaks of 4 years, and now a 2 year stretch where we are looking up at entire SEC. The traditions we love -including the support of the Vol Nation - are meaningless. The tradition of WINNING is the only one that will get us out of this mess. And right now we have a program and players used to losing. This game reminded me of the 2011 game at Kentucky, except Vandy was a whole lot better. We have no team leaders holding each other accountable. Pruitt has to be the heavy, and until he upgrades the talent, guys that loaf will still play. Hopefully yesterday is the end of it.

Since I mentioned UK and Vandy, neither of them will win a championship. But they’ve at least changed the culture where they no longer expect to lose. Vandy was much more competitive vs Fla, vs Mizz, and vs major non conference (ND). They clowned around at the end of the games last year and yesteday because they fully expect to kick our ass next year. Given our cultural problem, we have to give Pruitt long enough to flush guys out that don’t practice, lift, or study film well enough to win at this level.

Well, you beat us in 2013 and we finished ranked #4. EOY rankings are much more important than gametime rankings.

But, back on topic . . . I agree that your team was poisoned at the end of 2017. Pruitt did a good job this year considering the level of poison Lyle left behind. If he had squeaked out one more win and gotten y'all to any bowl, I would have said that he had done an excellent job.

All of you want it now people have a rude wake up call. I said 4 years and that leaves us with 3 more years. I'm willing to wait. What concerns is that you have idiots that go off on how a man is dressed on the side line. This thinking will keep us replacing and rebuilding forever.
I'll tell you just like I tell the Holly Warlick fans. Because some people maybe thought it was silly and sexist, or just hating because of orientation.

People are ALWAYS going to judge the way you dress. Always, everywhere you go. Even hippies judge you by that, "Hmm no tie dye? You don't Even own ANY hemp necklaces with mushroom pendants? Bra, you cant go to the Dead Show like that? Do you even drum circle, bro?"

So yeah Holly and Jeremy are both subject to the same rules humans have been living by for the past 25,000 years.

Only difference is the scrutiny is magnified because they happen to represent something bigger than themselves, and often find themselves on television and the media spotlight as a function of their job duties. That's why people care, and why it matters.

Both coaches look like random Hardee's customers, waiting with their number, for their double orders of gravy and biscuits.

When are some of you going to realize you tell yourselves the sane thing with every new coach yet is somehow doesnt make it true. Youll blame the last coach or the players until youre blue in the face but, never hold the guy in charge now accountable.

The problem has been for each new coach trying to fix it. You have each coaches
Recruits coming in and being corrupted by apathetic left overs. The only way i see to stop the cycle is by mass purge.
