Jeremy Pruitt inherited a broken culture

A different coach probably would have gotten more out of this roster, which probably would've made the difference against SC and VU and made the blowouts bit more respectable. The lack of effort is directly tied to the coaching. CJP is not going to sign a class full of elite prospects after this shizshow of a season. He will not win without elite talent. Only question now is whether Fulmer falls on the sword in a couple of years to try and buy CJP one more season, or does Fulmer get another chance to hire a hfc?
You don't know what you are talking about at all man. It's always a different coach would have done better. The fact that someone would have to work this roster that hard just to get to 6-6 speaks more to this roster than the coaches. The player they recruited here like Jeremy Banks, Alonte Taylor, and Brice Thompson have played up to par for the most part or at least played with heart. The coaches have literally took 2 freshman CBs and made them SEC caliber players as FRESHMAN. That tells me these coaches know what they are doing it's the upperclassmen who don't.

This staff was sold as a bunch of super recruiters and we've had it pounded into us all season that they need the kind of talent that they had at their former employers in order to execute their system. If they can't deliver a top class 10 this cycle, we will hear the same whiny excuses about them not having the horses three years from now. These jackwagons need to show us that they're more than clipboard toters for great coaches. Maybe start with getting rid of the stupid barber's smocks and put on a grown man's shirt with a collar.

Your last sentence was ridiculous and absurd, but funny nonetheless

I like CJP. He took this job when it was an out of control wildfire and managed to quell the flames enough to win 5 games this year. The simple fact of the matter is the after the schiano debacle, this was the worst job on the map.

Pruitt was not being recruited for a head coaching job either. He doesn’t have the experience in the role and this was his chance to make a name for himself. There have been several coaching issues this year, I won’t deny it. The time out yesterday before the 2 point attempt is one of them. He’s learning on the job in what appears to be a caustic culture of failure.

Is he the man? I don’t know but I sure hope so. So should all fans. At this point, we cannot go through another coaching search. We need some stability. Tennessee admins are not going to back up the money truck for a big name so we will be stuck with another up and comer.

If they can't deliver a Top 10 class? After 2 years of a losing record and missing bowl games? You expect a Top 10 class? Our fanbase is mental.

How about a Top 25 class filled with players that want to play the way Pruitt expects and fit his system? This is going to be a long rebuild boys. Buckle in, temper expectations for a while and enjoy slowly climbing out of this crap hole one wrung at a time.

Pruitt either makes it happen with a winning season next year or time to reopen the search for a coach process again. We have to many players returning, a good class and redshirts coming in for this team to have another losing season. Time for Pruitt to decide which coaches can get the job done and which ones can't that goes for players as well. We have to clean out all the bad inefficient players and coaches that is what a head coach does. If year two turns out like this season then I don't think the fanbase can be accepting of no progress. I don't expect to play for a National championship but a goal of 8 wins shouldn't be hard to achieve with all the returnees and entering players.

A team that won 0 conference games last year. What was anyone expecting this year? Do you not literally see the size of our o lineman?

I’ve got a good story for you. One of the backup QBs at Bama graduated from my kid’s school and during Bama’s off week he brought 3 or 4 players with him for the high school Friday night game. I was sure one of them was a starting Olineman when one of the other dads pointed out to me that it was not a Olineman, it was a backup linebacker. That’s what we’re lacking right now

That is nothing more than speculation without any basis. Saban was an NC winning coach when he took the Bama job, but couldn't improve on Mike Shula's 6-6 regular season record from the previous season, and lost to LA-Monroe that season. Jimbo Fisher won an NC at FSU, but could only improve on Sumlin's 7-5 regular record from the previous season by going 8-4 this season, a +1 improvement. Same as Pruitt. Both of those programs at the time, while not SEC contenders the season before Saban and Fisher took over, were in far better shape than what Pruitt inherited, but didn't get much more production, if any, out of those programs their first season. The reality is it is not that easy to turn any program around immediately in the SEC, much less a team that is a bottom feeder in the SEC, which UT is right now whether some of our fans want to accept that or not.

I wonder why everyone else's freshman are tearing it up ala Georgia and bama......hmmmm. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Because those freshmen are interspersed among a lot of veteran All=SEC and All=Americans, and not interspersed among other freshmen and older players who were never developed. Expecting a team made up of underclassmen in the SEC is not a recipe for success.

Because that's what denotes great coaches, fashion choices?

Don't over complicate things. It is just a football team. It needs someone to coach them up. A coach who can get 2 and 3 star players to play "lights out" is a better bet than one who can get 4 and 5 star players to play like they are supposed to.

We are on the same page. Competing in this conference with this year's young men, physically speaking, just was not realistic.

CJP inherited a toxic, broken culture. The Lead Trumpet recruited and built a team ready to dominate the Sun Belt. When he ran into the SEC without Dobbs, Barnett, and Kamara it was back to Band Camp. The team literally had all the fun coached out of them and they were not mentally prepared or ready for SEC football.

I saw the orange shoots of recovery through the South Carolina game with CJP. If we manage to hold on in that game, I think things might have been different yesterday. I think KY had their worst game of football against us (much like we lay an egg every year against Florida) and the team actually had some fun playing that day. When we ran into teams ready to hunker down late in the season though, it's clear half the team had mailed it in. Now, the whispers of all the friction and cultural malaise is being reported. All the good work up to the second half of the South Carolina game now has big question marks and the coaching staff has to own that.

CJP is not an elite coach yet but he has the potential. I've seen good things this year. It's National Signing Day that's an unknown and where he has to prove it. CJP has to do what it takes to fix the culture now. Maybe missing the bowl game is the best thing for the team in the long term IF Pruitt can fix the culture. I don't know if he needs to revamp his staff yet but I hope he has had a plan in the works. I can live with a Signing Day outside the Top 10 this year IF he's bringing SEC calibre football players and not just athletes who want the SEC life but want to play in Sun Belt games. The one thing about great coaches, they fix things and it shows in Year 2.

Year 2 starts today.
Well said EVH. He needs to be advertising immediate playing time to anyone he recruits. I don't think we know if he is elite yet or not.

The same bunch quit on the last guy to. I dont buy that being on Pruitt. If he has effort problems in year 2 and 3 then you have a point. Til then you dont.

Then it's on him for keeping a bunch of quitters on the roster. FWIW, the team quit on Butch when it became apparent that he was getting fired. Maybe those players were signaling the fanbase to expect another change?

If he kicked them all off this year, we wouldn't have been able to field a team. Someone has to play...
