While watching back film on the Jeremy Pruitt show...

"I mean, I don't know what to say I've got to do a better job of coaching them, aight". "They got a good play on us, but when you go up there and stick your head down you probably aint going to tackle anybody".

This is the one real reason I watch the coach's show on Sunday when I can. I like hearing the coach's honest thoughts on what he's seeing on the field during plays.

Such a refreshing change from the Butch Jones Show...all the mindless special features, sappy stuff & especially the fast forward-rewind-fast repeat "film study". Great to hear a coach who talks football instead of spew bilge.

Now if we can move past the talking stage a d get to the coaching up stage more folks will be on board.

I do like a man who os willing to objectively look at his performance and see the good stuff as well as the bad and own up to his share of both. However claiming ownership and doing something about it are two different things.

Hopefully some focus on keeping your eyes up while tackling will happen this week.

CJP has the knowledge he needs to fix stuff. Whether he had the leadership skills to implement his knowledge or not remains to be seen

"You know I thought our guys showed alot of resiliency on that play. We always talk about next man up and giving it all for your teammates. Coming into this game we only had 36 guys who had ever visited the state of Georgia which put us a huge disadvantage. But right here we showed off our 5 star hearts and exemplified what it means to be a volunteer and a champion of life"

Boy, our tackling sure is weak. Especially the LBs. Going back and watching film from the Johnny Majors days with Ernest Fields, Kelly Zieglar, and Dale Jones is an eye opener. Hit, thud, drop. Next play.
Keep working it coach.
Amen to that. Our LB's are very poor tackling bunch and lack the speed necessary to make the edges against quality competition.

Amen. This season has been just pathetic from a tackling stand point.

The second player in is the one who should be worrying about stripping the ball.

I think its just the nature of where football is right now. Tackling across the board is terrible. We have seen that in west virginia and Georgia against us. We have decent backs, but there is no way they should be leading the league in missed tackles.

Did he reference why we decided to pass the ball down the field a single time in the first half of the game? Not going to win too many games that way

You first need an OL that can pass block . . . if memory serves correctly, we haven't had that in SEVERAL years! Dobbs running for his life ring a bell? How about last year, how many QB's did we send in only for them to limp off of the field due to the OL missing blocks in pass pro?

If you do not have the OL to pass protect defenses are going to stack the box and blitz from all directions . . . and guess what we have faced in the last two games? Heck even three and four down DL have pressured JG!! Very seldom have we seen our OL provide a clean pocket, if they did it was by pure accident.

You make a good point - now its time to move past talking to DOING. But I will say this, I think fans are encouraged by JPs talk because, unlike Butch, at least it seems like he knows what actually needs to be done! Ya cant fix it if ya dont know what is wrong. Now just to get the current crop to buy in (less likely) or get all JP recruits on the field who have the right things instilled in them (more likely).

Those are the kinds of comments that encourage me about CJP. We have not been a good tackling team in years. A defensive minded coach knows that being able to take a guy down one on one is paramount when trying to field a tough defensive unit. If he gets that up to par the scores of our games will get a lot closer fast and our offense will get more time with the ball to figure stuff out. I like it.

I was complaining about the focus on stripping the ball while watching the Titans game. Seems to be at all levels, even in the pro's. I told my wife it was no wonder the college kids don't tackle, they're too busy trying to rip the ball out

Agree 100% so I think we should just give him a little time and see before we do much criticizing not sure he has a lot to work with right now.

You can roll the pocket, run a bootleg or call an RPO to help a weak O-line. We have done none of that this season.

This is true and has been trending that way for several years now from my perspective of watching games.

Players at all levels seem to want to go for the splash play instead of getting the guy on the ground, especially in the secondary.

I had forgotten how entertaining the Johnny Majors shows were. I really enjoyed them. It was like you were being coached. by him. His passion was hard to contain while watching the film and commenting. You could see how much it bothered him when players did something that wasn't fundamentally sound. Still remember his use of "Sammy sideline" to contain players. Thus far the similarities between he and CJP are all good to me.

I wonder if trying to teach a bad tackling team to thud at practice and not take them to the ground has made a bad tackling team not tackle very well in the games. I understand the thud at practice. It's saved a lot of injuries for us in fall camp.
Just trying to figure it out.

Coach still has the fire. Last week in an interview he was ready to suit up if needed.

Of ten minutes of the team nutritionist telling players to carry a bag of trail mix to class with them
