Jeremy Pruitt… worst UT head coach ever?

I met him and talked with him on more than one occasion, outside of Fulmer, he was the nicest TN coach I've been around. I have not met Heupel yet.

He would strut around and yell at electricians, claiming to understand their work better than they.

Have a relative who worked in the athletic department when Dooley was there. Said Dooley was a complete arse hat to everyone except the folks he thought could help him out. Said Dooley was the most unlikable coach in any sport at UT that he had worked around.
I think the baseball coach before Serrano might have been worse.

I know there are some more really bad ones but I would have to say yes. I’m sure an old timer could school me on someone who was worse (have only been a fan since ‘90) . In my time as a fan I would definitely have to anoint him the worst over Dooley. Beats Dooley out on sheer stupidity and having the personality of a p’d off bag of sand. Also, honestly the played for Bama thing didn’t help him in retrospect with the fans.
Yes, and I’m not really sure it’s even close.

Why not? One reason would be he couldn't speak like an educated adult. That Pruitt made it through an interview and still got hired is indicative of the fact Fulmer wasn't remotely qualified to be AD
Lol I thought we wanted people who knew how to win, not shower etiquette or brick by brick slogans.

Not to defend Phil but it's not like he had many options. And if you're left with HCs that has been average at their school, why not take a gamble on a hot co-ordinator who was under Saban.
I disagree. Phil wanted the AD position. Pursued it. And because of that, he doesn't get a "lack of candidates" excuse.
If he had to settle on Pruitt because the university rejected other options, options he preferred, he should have resigned.

Pruitt was the worst manager, but the best at stocking the cupboard. Butch lucked into legacies, but couldn't manage anything.

Dooley hired a great initial staff, but made the fatal Sunseri move.

From what I remember being told about the Sunseri hire was that Dools was going into his 3rd season and things did not look good for him and he couldn't get a DC that was good because of that and the AD would not give him the $ to hire a big name so Sunseri was who they settled on. The old find a diamond in the rough for cheap money trick and hope you got lucky.

I have met every head coach since Majors at least once. Majors was great (multiple times), Fulmer has always been great (multiple times), Kiffin once, Dooley once, Butch once, Pruitt once. I have not met Heupel. Kiffin acted like I wasn’t even there, Dooley was fine, and Butch was fine. Pruitt genuinely acted like he was miserable mingling with fans. I thought at the time that maybe it was just me.

What winning coach list are we talking about tho? We were turned down by NC St coach at one point.

Not defending Kiffin's time here but he had his head up his a$$ because he had always been the golden boy. Youngest OC at USC, got hired as youngest HC for an NFL team, Oakland Raiders. Screwed everything up but always seemed to land successfully. Things went downhill for him after he screwed us and left for USC. I have seen in an interview with him he wished he had been more mature and stayed at TN. Not defending the guy at all just giving a little history on him for some that may not know.

I believe I do not know who was a legitimate target, a rumor, an agent-led-pr campaign to get a client a raise. All I can say with confidence is Schiano was picked followed by a revolt.
But my reply to your point of view doesn't require we know who was a valid candidate. My reply is founded on Phil wanting the AD position, picking his guy, and his guy failing. If Phil wanted someone else, he should've resigned rather than hanging the Pruitt Millstone around his neck.

WTF? Speaking proper English and winning aren't mutually exclusive of one another. Etiquette and slogans don't have a damn thing to do with it. If you can't communicate like an educated adult, you certainly shouldn't be representing it as a head coach

Not sure rankings of “worst” helps any. His record was what his record was. The program regressed and he left us facing severe NCAA penalties. He was not good for our program. Just glad he is no longer here.

Pruitt by far the worst and we don’t even know yet the full extent of the damage he did to UT Football.
Additionally, he was an embarrassment to the university every time he spoke to the media or went into a recruit’s home or school.

Butch might have outshone him in the embarrassment department. It was like he was trying to say humiliating stuff.

Considering the trouble we're in right now and that he didn't accomplish anything then I would say, yes he is the worst

Worst coach...quite possible. Most damaging...without a doubt.

The job seemed too big for each of our previous 3 coaches, which is why they are not coaching big boy football. I don’t get that impression with JH - he seems in total control

Bill Battle was the worst. Drove an SEC championship program completely into the ground in 7 years. Terrible recruiter but fine man. Johnny Majors should have followed Dickey and the dark years would not have happened. Pruitt was a reach hire there is no doubt but he did understand recruiting and brought some talent in. Pruitt was much more qualified than Battle who was a 28 year old tight end coach and Pruitt might have kept a championship program going long term given the same opportunity Battle had in my opinion. HOWEVER, THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS - FIRE IMMEDIATELY ANY AD WHO ATTEMPTS TO HIRE A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH FROM U. OF ALABAMA. I EMPHASIZE IMMEDIATELY. There is no reason to stoop that low at any time.

After last night it's about time for Pruitt to make his way to the Nick Saban Center for coaches who don't coach so good.

Bill Battle struggled to recruit later in his tenure. But he still has two top 10 finishes. Pruitt couldn't manage that in a 12 team NCAA field.

Dooley would have been a good AD
