Jeremy Banks

Let me say this. I wanted Banks off the team after he made some poor choices with police officers. He redeemed himself through his actions. I was glad to see him be allowed back. Forgiveness is what we should all strive to, and he earned it.

I feel confident that he will learn from this too.

I think he just needs to adjust to the other side of the ball. Honestly I liked his “late hit”. How many times do you see defenders pull up and the O takes advantage to get a few more yards or even take it down the field. He just needs to work on the timing and even how to make it look more incidental than intentional.
As for the helmet incident, sorry but I watched their O line go hands to the face a lot in the second half and if that’s what it takes to get the officials to take notice then do it.

I think he will be fine and a great player for us. He goes from a RB, to a year off, to playing the other side of the ball in a season with limited practice and prep time. What he needs to work on are easily coached. But he shows the will and intensity that can’t be coached and that says to me he can be coached into a star player.

Other than the bone headed penalties I thought he played well. Thought he was our best linebacker when not making dumb penalties.

Agreed. He was the best LB today. He was all over making plays. Obviously can't have the dumb penalties but those are coachable moments. I see why alot of yall were so high on him now.

This is what i was worried about. Crouch has never looked comfortable at ILB. He was recruited to play edge. But who else is there? Eason is still a true freshman and Banks is very talented and has experience. But Banks needs to be slowly earned back into playing time. But Crouch didn't really show like and equal or better option tonight.
VQ (amongst others) have projected Eason as eventually ending up on the DL. Was an early skeptic on that thinking, but I’m coming around to it. I’m thinking Pruitt’s ILB’s need to be lighter missile types. Martavious French fits that model more than anyone else behind Toto and Banks. Beasley maybe.

That's where I thought he would be at first was DE. He can still play ILB, but only in limited capacity. There is a different level of athleticism required for that position now, opposed to 8 - 10 years ago. It's because the evolution of football becoming more offensive friendly. Even in the rules...everything favors the offense . Because Offense is excitng.

You need athletes with good instincts that can run with these offenses. AND are FAMILIAR with offensive concepts. THATS ALL IM GONNA SAY about that. Despite the two penalties..a guy we recruited as a running back was making all kinds of plays at Line Backer...

Defense is the most important side of the ball. As I said in the Cody Brown thread- defense can win the game by itself based of the structure of the game. It can score (Henry T, thanks) . It stops scoring. It can cause turnovers and let the offense runs as many plays as they can manage.

I'm not sure what Pruitt was thinking when he offered Eason. But he's a damn good football player, but imo he can't be a full-time ILB. He can play it on 3rd and long where he can rush, or 3rd and short where he run blitz. But playing it straight downs 1 - 3...nah. DT. Yes. an explosive and disruptive DT at that..

I was telling everyone we needed Banks back because he would be our starting linebacker. Many on here disagreed with me and thought kicking him off the team was a good idea. Some even said he would never play because he was recruited over.
Time 4 a name change!

I must have missed the part where he redeemed himself. What did that entail?

I agree with you.
The late hit wasn't blatant.. It was just late. I didn't see what caused the helmet penalty. Both sides where jawing at each other often in the second half. Its a wonder more didn't lose their cool. That happens in football.. They say Banks is very critical of himself. He will only get better. GoVols!

I didn't see what caused the helmet penalty.
The USCe OL thrust his face mask against J. Bank's hand, causing his face mask to become entangled with Bank's fingers. Then the OL ducked, causing his head to completely pop out of the helmet.

Completely surprised by the unorthodox maneuver, J. Bank's recoiled. The helmet went astray when he recoiled, as if it had been purposely thrown.............

Kidding aside, there was no flag thrown on the field. I didn't see the flag(and the announcers never mentioned it)anyway & think the call came in over the refs headsets from upstairs.

"You idiots missed it. They're ripping helmets off now. Get this game under control before someone gets hurt."

If my tinfoil theory holds true, is it within the rules for an unsportsmanlike penalty to get called in from an official off the field?

This reminds me of the time Marty Jannetty threw himself through that barbershop window to run away from Shawn Michaels.

Why must you make me feel old this early in the morning?

Was that what broke up their legendary run as 'The Rockers'?

I don't mind some of the "attitude' I saw on the Tennessee side last night. If you think teams win championships with "choirboys"...go watch some Liberty University football and tell me how much you enjoy THAT. *NOW...watching the videos of the Headmaster's wife? THAT'S a different story

Somebody (Ansley) just needs to teach him (Banks), Alontae and others just how to HAVE and PLAY with that attitude...WITHOUT being SO "flaggable"...Capisce?

You just can't do what he did and do it a third time only to not be called. Inexcusable, both incidents, in a very close game right in front of the officials.

I definitely noticed their O-LIne getting away with a some holds/hands to the face near the end and was wondering how the refs missed it. Overall, I think the refs did a pretty good job and seemed to just let the teams play. Neither team looked horrible. I think South Carolina isn't as bad on offense as we all thought they were going to be.
