Tennessee football signee Jeremy Banks planning early impact

“Once Tennessee hired Coach Pruitt, that sealed it for me,” Banks told SEC Country from his home in Cordova on Thursday night. “He’s laid back, has a way of connecting and understanding players. The whole staff is cool, all the assistants on up to the coach.”

Former Tennessee running backs coach Robert Gillespie kept tabs on Banks throughout last season, even as the Vols were transitioning coaches.

“He’s 6-2, 215 pounds and when you watch his film he’s a tough kid, wants to be first in every drill,” Gillespie said in assessing Banks at the Tennessee Theatre last month. “He wants to be driven and pushed to be the best he can be. He’s a physically punishing runner, and he catches the ball out of the backfield well.

“You’ll be excited to see him play, because he’s smart enough and tough enough to help us as a true freshman.”

Banks said he appreciated Gillespie keeping him on Tennessee’s radar, and now he’s excited to play for new running backs coach Chris Weinke.

“Oh yeah, Coach Weinke face-timed me and I know all about him, and the Heisman (Trophy). Coach Weinke is all business.”

Story indicates he’s very strong and big. Can’t wait to see what he and Chandler do.

Don't count out Fils-Aime and Jordan. They both showed flashes last season. I think we are going to have a good stable of RB's, however, it might be hard to tell how good they are this season because our O- line is going to be very substandard.

I would like to see Fils-Aime moved to slot. He is not big enough to be a full time RB. He is explosive with the ball in his hands so get him the ball as the slot on the outside on screens and slants and watch him go!

Kamara weighed in the low 190s at Alabama and is 5’10.

We could use him like we did with Neal as freshman

Yea but Kamara was 215 here and Fils-Aime is coming into his JR season without getting any bigger. I will say this though, none of our players developed very much under Jones so I am curious to see if he has put on weight like several other players. Jordan Allen has supposedly 16 pounds heavier already and JG is suppose to have put on 20.

Jeremy Banks is a big, strong, tough, and confident back who is fast enough to run track. I really like this young man's attitude. He said representing Tennessee and competing for a National Championship is important to him. He said he is more than willing and ready to compete for carries because the competition will make everyone better. We've got some studs in the backfield.

Does Helton's system employ a fullback? H-back?

Just wondering if we had a FB type back on the team?

I watched him run all up and down my former high school here in Memphis two straight years. Kid is big and fast just needs to polish his game and he will be special!

Fils aime is shredded, has added a lot of muscle. He ran like a beast last year, and ran through a few people. He certainly didnt dance around and shy away from contact.

Averaged 6.9 yards a rush.

So can we stop with this "too small", "not an SEC rb" dialog that Keeps popping up about Carlin?

I know Coach G was the highlight of the previous staff, but I'm honestly not discounting any of our players at this point regardless of previous play. I'm looking forward to seeing what this staff can do with the players we have. I don't think our team has had any real development or honest coaching in a while. We have talent on the roster I mean the recruiting rankings can't all be wrong so we have some talent now to see how long it takes to change the bad habits and get results.

It was very obvious that CFA made a significant commitment to the weight room, despite the S&C woes. I seriously doubt he was playing at 190. With this new staff I expect he'll do even more.

For some reason when I see this RBs name all can think of is the old “wizinator” or whatever that contraption was called

When I look at our RB room I simply see LOADED from top to bottom.

Don't sleep on CFA because he did well in limited action last year and he'll be better this year.

The biggest problem I see with our RB's, other than O line problems, is being able to get most of them enough carries to keep them happy.

Some here worry about our new RB coach being a former QB but I see him being a great coach and 2 things I believe he'll really push and teach well will be...

1...Teaching our RB's to be rock solid pass blockers to help protect our QB.

2...Pushing them hard on reading the D much better before the snap which will give us a good advantage.

I really like what we have going on with our RB's.

Get the O line working well and our run game could be dangerous.

VFL...GBO!!!!!!
