Jennings!!

I imagine $825K in San Fran is probably closer to the buying power of $500K in East Tennessee!
…realistically more like $130,000. Here’s why:

He’ll pay about $375,000 in taxes, $110,000 of which will be California state taxes. The NFL caps agent commission at 3% so he’ll pay another $25,000 to his agent, leaving him at $425,000.

The cost of living index in Knoxville, TN is between 89 and 90. The index in San Francisco is 244. This means that a $425,000 salary in San Francisco is equal to a $130,000 salary in Knoxville.

They need to pay him well next year for the hit his wallet is taking from this contract now (relatively speaking). Hope he has a huge year and forces their hand or goes somewhere who sees his value and is willing to pay it.

You have to factor in game checks too.

I think it's like 32 thousand per game per player?

Then Jauan played three games in the playoffs. You get 56,000 for playing in the NFC championship game alone which he did.

Doesn’t he only pay California taxes for games played in California? I thought professional athletes are taxed in the states where their games are paid?

Scored another TD

Making a lot of posters look silly who said he was too slow.

Anyone who ever doubted Jennings clearly never really watched him at Tennessee. The guy is a natural born leader and a beast period. He has an it factor that can't be taught or really measured.

What you are talking about is called “jock tax” and it stipulates that players pay taxes in the state where the money was earned.

He’ll pay California state income taxes on any money upfront + bonuses. Each player gets a portion of their base salary over the course of 17 weeks, these are “game checks.” Wherever that money was earned is where he’ll pay taxes on it. If he has an away game in Seattle the earnings from his game check would be taxed based on Washington State’s income tax rate. The vast majority of his money (9 home games in San Francisco and 1 away game in Los Angeles) will be subject to the 12.3% California tax rate based on the tax bracket he’ll be in.

You are only partially correct. Regular season game checks are correlated to the player’s base salary.

Add to this that San Francisco is not the city it used to be and you get an overrated market.

Hes probably sleeping on another players couch or has a little apartment. Wow. After all the taxes he isnt making much. Hopefully next season he is playing for at least a couple million and can set up his future. God bless that VFL
