Jennings suspended for first half of bowl game (merged)

This is wrong for so many reasons. It’s an awful precedent. If this were an LSU or GA player no way they do this before the SECCG.

Tenn is the easy target nobody else will care about. Period.

Just awful.
I disagree. Look at Pickens.

So what about the Peabody prick that ripped Butler's helmet off on their first play from scrimmage? Where was his ejection? What about the dancing dufus on the Peabody sideline leading his team across the field to fight? I could deal with the penalty if there were any symblance of equity. Instead they got nothing for their actions because they were the ones whining.

Personally, I thought that what the Vanderbilt running back did on that play was even more egregious; he initiated and deliberately maintained sustained contact with Alontae Taylor’s chin strap/face mask for several yards before finally yanking Taylor’s helmet off his head.

And, then, as you note, one of Vandy’s offensive linemen (no. 63) yanks Butler’s helmet off and Butler was flagged for illegal participation, thus offsetting the extraordinarily flagrant foul committed by their RB.

I ran across the actual NCAA rule giving the SEC authority to impose sanctions.

From The Spun
The suspension is consistent with NCAA Football Playing Rule 9-6-2. The rule states: “If subsequent review of a game by a conference reveals plays involving flagrant personal fouls that game officials did not call, the conference may impose sanctions prior to the next scheduled game.”

Nice arbitrary enforcement of a subjective ruling.

"Flagrant" my hairy arse.

Looked to me like jj couldn't get up quick enough because the Vandy player had grabbed him by the crotch, and when that Vandy guy finally turned him loose, jj couldn't get away quick enough and was a little upset about being grabbed that way. Now we know what kind of guys they got calling the shots over at the sec.

Hey, did anyone catch the Gump DB who was emasculated by the small Auburn slot back on the jet sweep that went for a short TD run? The Gump DB got his helmet knocked off attempting the tackle, THEN continued in the play and tried to strip the ball from the Auburn slot back before he crossed the goal line!! No penalty on the Gump DB for illegal participation!! The Gump DB was right in the middle of the play, no way an unbiased, competent official could miss it. It happened just after Butler was flagged in the UT game for jogging behind the play after getting his helmet pulled off.

Maybe the SEC office in Gumpville should review that play from the Auburn - Gump game days after the fact, and assess a 15 yd. penalty to Gump in its upcoming bowl game....

If you are going to try to paint this as some example of Bama bias, you could at least come moderately close to describing what actually happened.

It is precisely what happened, Lil Gumpster. It was the winning TD. Not sure how anyone watching could miss it.

They probably wanted to suspend him the entire game but couldn't prove he meant to step on that dude.
This. I think had he not pulled off his own helmet and tossed it on the ground as if to say "here, use this", the suspension wouldn't have happened.

That, to me, was what might have tipped the scales. Anyway, it's a half, and will soon be forgotten. It could have been worse, it could have been better.

HALF game suspension is the totally GUTLESS response. Whomever is responsible should be ashamed to look at themselves in the mirror.
This is what you do when you are too spineless to make a damned decision and feel like you need to weasel out of your RESPONSIBILITY.
If intentional: it's an awful act and requires total removal....no question.
If unintentional: it's one of those things that happen in a football game and you move on.
Issuing a half-game suspension is the response of someone totally abrogating their responsibility and THAT is who needs to be removed from a position of authority that they are clearly incapable of handling.
This is disgusting.

The Vandy player's face was fine; he was never stomped. More like grazed.

JJ made a poor decision to get into it in the first place, and it seemed to be intentional, but the only reason for the 1/2 game suspension is the hoo-haw made by the SJW losers at ESPN.
And here and vandy

It is what it is. I think the conference is dead wrong. But the suspension came down and our AD said we would abide by it. Time to move along.
This is the most disappointing part of this all to me. No backbone. Just bow down and kiss Sankeys converse. You're better than that Phil
