Marshall makes $1.75 at WSU. Offer him 5 years at $2.5 million and lets have a news conference tomorrow announcing the hire. My wishful thinking. Imagine the buzz in the basketball world.

Not sure your point. Other than the Hollins boys and Mathieu, I don't know who else he had. I thought being on the bubble with two weeks left was pretty good. Again, just my choice. Doesn't have to be others.

I think Bruce Pearl proved this statement wrong. The right guy can win. It doesn't have to be a big name coach, it just has to be the right coach. :peace2:

If that happens, it means no proven coach either wanted the job or that UT was unwilling to open up the check book to make a proven coach want the job.

At that point, I wonder if it will sink in.

Miller is making around $600k, with around a $400k buyout. If we can't afford that we should just throw away the program.

I feel like the buyout for Pitino would be insane since this is his first year at Minnesota. Does anyone know what it is?

The Pearl hire was a great one, but we did have to give him the $$$ in '09 in order to keep him. I would rather pay an established coach upfront and not misfire like we did in those years before Pearl. How many duds did it take before the Pearl hire?

I'm not advocating for RPJ at all. Just saying why we can't pay him $1.3 and expect him to come. He's too green for me. It does have the Dooley feel too much at this point; learned from dad, learned from another "legend" (Saban & Donovan),

We have a great fanbase.

FWIW, everyone I have talked to who knows college hoops and isnt' a Vol Fan thinks we are about to upgrade in a big way.

I don't think so. Gary Parrish says we will not hire someone who is in more demand than Martin. Now, that is not to mean the new coach is worse. Just not as sought after. He thought Tyndall or others could be good with time.

Unsolicited, I have heard this from two unrelated people in ATL today - both are not vol fans. I thought they were crazy and, at the time, wondered if they both read the same article somewhere... maybe there's some smoke out there.


Let's be honest. The difference between paying 1.5m and 2.0m is pretty small when you are the UTAD.

Martin flirted with 2 decent jobs. The others listed have flirted with who?

If "people who know basketball" are saying Pitino, White, or Tyndall are a huge upgrade over Cuonzo, they don't know basketball.

I think it's becoming clear he was never offered by Marquette too. I think he'd went to Punxsutawney state if they'd offered.
