Jeff Goodman tweets UT has Pitinio Jr. on the short list

We hired Zo in his 3rd year at a mid major. Pitino is right on par with his resume when UT conducts a coach search. They are equals pre UT. Pitino's last name gives our program buzz for a hire so late in the game. We need that buzz.
Slow learner?

Gophers AD Norwood Teague tells us Richard Pitino is not interested in Tennessee job.

All in all this is probably a good thing. UT men's basketball doesn't need to be an on the job training program!

Maybe not but Pitino himself hasn't commented. With coaching searches ya never know.

Were hoping we can get 5 years of him...he has said all the right things up here though and makes it sound like his coaching "dream" job...of course, they all say that.

I just see this as the most realist option, especially, with the lack of experienced coaches that may be willing to come to UT.

I believe TN can pull in a big name coach if they are willing to pay 2.5 -3 million per year .

It is a gamble either which way they go. It is doubtful but Howland or Marshall could come to TN for 2.75 million and be a complete flop or a coach like White could come here for less than half of that and do a great job and become one of the big names in a few years. Hart has a major decision to make and it is hit or miss whomever he hires.

Gramps,I'd take Kevin O' Neill right now. He is a hateful sob but he can coach and he's a damn good recruiter.

Please go get Michael White. If Marshall and Shaka aren't coming, lock White down.

If I were Hart I would:

1st call to Marshall and the offer would be 2.35/YR with 750,000.00 for his top 3 assistants. That would give each of them a bump of about 80 grand.

If he passes, I would then:

Offer Shaka 2.1/YR and the same type of deal for his assistants.

If he passes, I would then:

Offer Michael White 1.1 million and go with it.

I'd have a new BB coach in place before the weekend is out.

...but you don't have the level of "expertise and knowledge" that Dave Hart has. You just used common sense. Please.

I quick glance over Michael White's wiki page doesn't really excite me. It kind of reminds me of the CCM hire, except CCM had the whole Gene Keady coaching tree thing. And CCM had is pro days in the NBA, which I thought might help in recruiting. Honestly, I'd rather have Howland over White. What am I missing that makes White a good hire?

I put a value on his 7 years as an SEC assistant coach. He knows recruiting in the southeast and was considered a very recruiter while at ole miss. I also think he would demand about 1/2 the salary Howland would.

I think he's already made the decision, he said he was looking for a rising star in the PC yesterday. That tells me that he isn't willing to pay the 3 million per year to get Marshall, and from I have read about Marshall, I'm not sue he would be a good fit at UT.

Admittedly, I don't follow basketball nearly as closely as I do football. So, I hadn't heard of Michael White before this coaching search. I just looked up the record of Louisiana Tech the year before his arrival, and the three years he has been there. Wow!

12-20 (2-14 in conference).
18-16 (6-8) - his first year.
27-7 (16-2).
(29-8 (13-3).

That's a pretty damned impressive turnaround.
