Jeff Goodman tweets UT has Pitinio Jr. on the short list

I can understand the attraction of Pitino, but man idk. He hasn't made the dance, probably should've with the team he had last year. On top of that though, he hasn't done anything recruiting, he makes Zo look like Calipari.

That right there is the funniest post of the day.

Plus we would get some good publicity with Pitino. You know his dad will be at TBA when he can. Hard did say he wanted a up and coming coach, and Pitino's team did win the NIT championship this year.

Buzz Peterson's Tulsa team won the NIT before he left to become UT's coach! Let that sink in.

A "household name" certainly would help some fans to move beyond Pearl. That movement seems foundational to moving the program ahead.

Wanna know something else he's never done...

Made the NCAAT or signed a 5*

And what had Cuonzo accomplished prior to UT? Pitino Jr and Cuonzo are the same at the time when UT has a coaching search. I do know one thing. That is that Jr. would definitely generate a lot of national media being so close to UK and Daddy. UL, UK, and UT is better for the sport of basketball with our recent success. (Last 10 years) If we are able make a buzz worthy hire this late in the game, that works towards our advantage. Imagine Rick in the audience at his son's presser. That would get press. Right now, we need it more than anything that doesn't include negativity.

Plus, the Pitino tree isn't that a bad one.

Wow, you guys are gung ho over a coach that finished 8-10 in the Big Ten this year. Give me a f---g break! Wanting to pay him based on his daddy alone! Why? Because he's young? Geez!

By your very definition isn't that overpaying? Zo was hired at around $1.2m, you're saying they have very similar resume yet pay Pitino Jr $1.75m

Well, I say 1.75 due to the fact that the extension and raise was a "done deal" according the most people on here. I don't think it was overpaying when we were willing to pay that exact amount.

Michael White Bio - LA Tech Official Athletic Site

White would bring a good brand of basketball to Rocky Top!

White needs to wait on the Ole Miss job. 3 years as a head coach and zero NCAA's. This is about competing for championships not having some cheerleader on the sidelines. You want a guy that plays fast pace and plays in the NIT or do you want a guy that goes 29-7 and has been to the Final 4 three straight times like a Howland?

Tyndall already said 'not interested' and Pitino doesn't actually fit the experience profile

Donnie who???
If we hire him, we will become the laughing stock of the SEC. Conference USA was horrible this year. A program with very little basketball relevance, Auburn, goes out and makes a big splash. If UT doesn't hire a headliner coach, then the athletic department needs to be held accountable. It will cost us at least $2 million a year, but we have what it takes to become a top tier SEC basketball program if we want it bad enough.

Will not happen. I guess you can start a petition. Good luck.

I haven't heard anyone suggest white over Howland. Just that white would be a good hire.

Last name

We hired Zo in his 3rd year at a mid major. Pitino is right on par with his resume when UT conducts a coach search. They are equals pre UT. Pitino's last name gives our program buzz for a hire so late in the game. We need that buzz.

Pitinio would win here.

Would be a great hire too. Imagine the UK rivalry AND even adding Louisville to the schedule on occasion. Plus playing Donovan's UF and smacking Pearl around at Auburn's gotta be appealing to a coach wanting to test himself (say what you will about the conference but UK and UF are as good as it gets in terms of playing tough opposition and Pearl's name recognition makes beating him more valuable than it would be if he was any Auburn coach). There would be a great deal of opportunity for Pitino here to carve out his own name in giant letters (no one would overlook accomplishments here or say it was all due to his father) and his connections + our location would enable easy scheduling of OOC powerhouses nearby Could be a great fit if UT is willing to pay.

I always thought football was the number one priority at Tennessee. I don't think the money is going to be there like a lot of people think it's going to be.
