6-6 is his first year coaching a team who won 9 games in 4 years. After going 8-4, 8-5, 12-2, and 11-3 at WKU. I don't disagree he'd be a gamble but it seems he's been able to improve programs he's coached.
But even if Currie went after Brohm, doesn't he have something like a $12M buyout due to being in year 1 of his contract? His salary would likely be on the cheaper side, but that buyout would sting pretty badly for a gamble.
People are using this talking point like it's a major accomplishment. It's not. They won 6 or 7 games in 2011/2012. It's not likely Purdue has been completely irrelevant the last decade - they've just had a string of bad coaches. Brohm has upside for Purdue, but not enough upside that we should buy him out and take that gamble. Even with his bro on board, it's not an attractive hire.
Also people, please dont talk about this man's "NFL experience" as if that's an appropriate measuring tool when discussing head coaching candidates. It's not. He was a career clip board holder, never once made a meaningful impact on a NFL team.
