fantastic....I have a quick story about JEff as well. Dooleys first day of fall camp, his first year, i tried to be sneaky and get some footage by holding my flip cam under the fence at Haslam....i managed to get a few minutes of "ok" footage, before a Knox City cop ran me off...so i went to the Bathroom at Stokley to watch, in that boiling heat...( if you've ever been in one of those bathrooms in the summer, you know)..anyway, so I'm looking out the window watching practice and like you, i hear this booming voice from behind me...Turns out it's Tylers dad and a coworker trying to find a place to watch his son practice...LOL...my first thought was ( i cant beleive this is really a players dad, why wouldnt he be on the field, then i remembered Dooleys practice policy) we chatted for a LONG time and he told me all about how the family moved to knox from cali to be close to tyler and be available for the games..if memory serves me correctly, i think either Ty's mom stayed in cali or was going back...cant remember..anyway, I agree, Jeff was super nice....He told me about a time when Tyler was younger and had finished second in a punt pass and kick contest..his prize was a jersey i beleive and tyler turned it down..said he didnt want it...when Jeff asked him why, he said "cause i didnt get 1st place"...I thought "man, maybe this Bray Kid will be mature beyond his years like Peyton"......oooops...haha..sorry so long, but i thought u would enjoy this story..i actually have video of him from that meeting on my youtube channel.

Magic, that is a great story!!! It is nice to know that there is still some nice, decent people in the world!! I too understand what it is like to live o a budget. It limits my time in Neyland as well. My employers give us discounts to certain games every year. The tix are about $20 or so. They are usually in section QQ. Not the greatest, but it is still a game!! The games this year will be Ga. St., Akron, Troy, Missouri, and Ky. If you are interested, shoot me a message and I will give you the promotion code. I would put it here for everyone, but I don't know how ticked off they my bosses would be if I did that. My kids first games was this year's orange and white game. They really enjoyed it!!!!

I think one of the great things about being a fan of a sport or team or even player is it's ability to bring together people from all walks of life. No matter your age, politics, religion, ethnicity, etc., we can all come together to support our team. The time shared together among fans at a game can only be trumped by sharing that same time with family and friends. For a father and son, time spent together at a ball game can become the memories of a lifetime. Unfortunately, the cost of going to the games can make it hard for this to happen. So for me, the Orange and White game being free this year was a my chance to share a memory with my 11 year old son.

This is something I have imagined doing with my whole family for a long time, but with my son inparticular. While my dad and I never went to a game together, we were able to share that bond thru listening to John Ward call the games while setting around the huge console stero in our living room!

I really wanted this to be the perfect father/son day. We got up early, put on our orange and white and headed to campus. After walking around, going to the campus store and stopping to pay homage to the statue of General Neyland, we headed down to go onto the field to get autographs! Now in my mind the huge line that was already formed would at some point end and my plan was to simply file in line at the end. So while the gates to enter the stadium were opened, we were shopping in the store to allow the line to die down. I tell you this to set the stage for a great day. After about 20 minutes we made our way down to go into the stadium. While the line was still incredibly long, I assured my son that we would get in. While many people cut line, I didnt want that to be part of the memory of my and my sons first time on the grass! I have to tell you after about 15 more minutes I really started to panic, it became clear that this line was never going to end and I was worried that my perfect day was going to fall woefully short. We made our way back to the top of the hill and filed in line. It was another 10 minutes or so before we got down to the 20 foot wide gates they were funneling us into the stadium thru. By this point I had apologized to him that we werent going to get any autographs because my plan to file in at the end was stupid. He was disappointed but to his credit he didnt say much. The day before we had found him a Tyler Bray jersey for him to wear and get signed. Like most kids, he had his favorites and Tyler was the man!
I know this is long but this is where it gets good! Because everyone is being crammed thru the tunnel onto the field, it became necessary for us to get single file as we took baby steps thru the tunnel. A 6 second walk litterally took about 3/4 minutes. As we started thru I hear this big booming voice behind me ask my son, "Are you planning on getting his autograph?", Now I couldnt turn to see who was asking but I knew he meant Tylers autograph because Easton was wearing his #8 Jersey. I told the voice that was the plan but since I was stupid in my planning, at this point we just hope to get the honor of stepping onto the field. For the next few minutes we walked thru the tunnel and talked about TN football, the team, fans, etc. He was super nice and huge! I could tell he was somehow a part of the program based on his knowledge and when I caught a glimpse of him(6,5 or so) I assumed he was a former player. I explained to him that based on all the negativity you hear all of the time that I had under estimated the fan turn out and killed my sons chance to get Tylers autograph. As we got to the end of the tunnel he said, "well, if you still want that autograph, follow me!" I recognized immediately this was our shot! He quickly guided us thru the checker board endzone (that was completely awesome by the way) around the ropes and right up to the side of the table where the players are!! Of course now I know this guy definitely is a part of the program. He yells over to Tyler and the next thing I know, here my son is shaking hands and getting his jersey signed! Keep in mind this all happened in a manner of a minute. This was a completely sureal moment and my mind sort of went blank. This all happend so fast, a second ago I was a dumb dad that had messed up the day and now suddenly I'm on the field and my son is meeting his favorite player! I snapped out of it just long enough to take a couple of pictures and then it was over. At this point I asked the booming voice, "ok, so who the heck are you anyway?" He introduced himself as Jeff Bray, Tylers dad. We went on to talk for about 10 minutes before I decided I had taken up enough of his time. He talked about his family, all of his kids, introduced me to his wife and son, and was absolutely amazing. He was a dad and a fan helping another dad and fan. I thanked him as one dad to another for giving a memory of a lifetime for my son and I. Jeff Bray is a VFL in my book!

I'm not sure who was glowing more after that but I have a pretty good idea! If our budget allows we plan to go to a couple of games this year, maybe Ga State or Troy, I can't wait for him to see a game live but somehow I know it will never top his first time on the field! The man to the right is Jeff Bray

Took my sons up for the 1996 Orange and White game, the autograph line was so long when we never got up to the signing tables for the most popular players. My oldest was especially disappointed but our luck changed in the hotel that afternoon. We got on the elevator and Archie Manning was in it and gave both of my sons his autograph. Later that night we were in the Ye Ole Steakhouse and Peyton came in and sit right next to us. So we asked it he'd mind autographing both boys "16" jerseys they were wearing. He did so gladly and Peyton was so super nice about it all. So Orange dads luck into good days on Ole Rocky Top!

Awesome story OP! That's something that you and your son will always remember and when he is grown and has kids will tell them that story too. Jeff Bray sounds like a real class act. People just don't really do stuff like that for each other anymore and it's nice to hear stories like that from time to time.

Years from now Bray will be a fleeting memory for your son but his Dad will be on his heart forever.

Everything I have read about Jeff Bray is positive--from the Kiffin debacle where he stood firm that his son would remain a Vol through now. I really hope this is the breakout season for Tyler and the rest of the players who stuck it out. They deserve some success.

That is one of the coolest stories I have ever heard. I just had my first child a boy and I can't wait till I get the chance to take him to his first Orange and White game and first home game.. I will always remember the times my Dad took me to games.

Good story. Reminds me of my first day of college at UNA; someone took me to the front of the line to register, and simply said, "incoming frosh." Saved me a few hours of waiting in line.

While my story is not as heartwarming as yours, I have great admiration for Coach Chaney. I took my son to his first Orange and White game under the former regime. LK, Monte, and Orgeron had to leave to talk to some recruits which, left three empty chairs at the table where he was sitting. Once we reached the table where he was sitting, he asked my 8 year old to come and sit beside him and spent several minutes talking with him as if, he were the only child there that day. That act made my son's day and it makes you stop to think that these guys are human just as we fans are. Thanks Coach Chaney.

Wow great story! It reminds me of taking my son to his first game too; Kentucy 1995 or 1996??? My son had just turned 4 or 5 and we rounded the corner to head to the stadium and my son asked, "Daddy, is this what heaven looks like? I have never seen so much ORANGE!!!". It made this dad proud. As many have said, Tyler is his hero now but I bet for years to come his dad will be the one he calls when he needs a real hero. Great job dad!

Awesome story...reminds me of the time I was at Long John Silvers on Magnolia Ave. for Sunday dinner and interrupted Southeastern wrestler Kevin Sullivan's date with his girlfriend for an autograph.

I bumped into CJC at my daughter's softball camp this summer. Nicest dude. I wanted to talk x's and o's with him, and got the impression he would have, but I kept it about our daughters at the camp.

Fantastic story. I'm glad your day turned out so well. I had a similar experience with Erik Ainge and my two sons. They still have the picture taped on their mirror in their room and talk fondly about that memory all of the time. That one experience, made my boys life time vol fans. Of course, they were already fans because of me, but this made it much more personal for them. I'm sure it will be the same for your son.

I sometimes have additional tickets and because your story has made my day, I would like to get your name and number so I can get in touch with you when and if they become available. My email address is jps2194@hotmail.com, drop me a note with your details. Every son deserves a chance to see a game!

It is good to know that there are important people out there that will do something great, not for glory but just to help someone like us out. My first trip to UT was 1961 Hubert Mcclain #19 gave me his jersey after the game. They beat Ga. Tech 10 to 6. will never forget that. When Tech was still a major football school.
