This is a very good hire, considering the circumstances, but it's important to put it into perspective.
Graham can have a positive effect on RBs and certainly in recruiting, but he won't cure the offensive woes. There are problems that unfortunately run a lot deeper than one position coach. Not to mention what effect moving Hinshaw to receiver might have.
The offensive scheme is still the same. The OL is still the same. The personnel haven't changed.
I hope I'm wrong, but UT isn't suddenly a nine-win team. This is a good step, but hopefully won't come too late to make any real difference.
I'm impressed by Graham and happy that he's chosen to return to Knoxville. Truly a VFL.
Just curious, but upon what are you basing this? Just because he played here doesn't mean he can coach.
Hey clown, would you rather have no RB coach?
Or one that
-is in UT record books
-played pro
-coached Lattimore
-VFL
-contacts in Carolina
-highly rated as a recruiter
-young, up and coming coach
-young African American coach to be a buffer between middle aged white men and 19 yr old African American kids, that will have already earned respect before he speaks to the team
That's why it's a great hire.
Jay was a great back his first couple of years. IIRC his numbers dropping off in the 97 season. Can someone help me remember if it was because the line didn't open holes for Graham, or was it because we just called more pass plays because of Manning?
