Worse season EVER?

We went 5-7 in 2008. And we went 5-6 in 2005.

We are quite well acquainted with five-win seasons, just in the last 6 years, thank you very much Phil Fulmer.

p.s. We went 4-7 in 1977. So this was hardly the worse season ever. Not by a long shot.[/QUOTE]
1 conference win. Over Vandy. Pretty bad. 3 years after CPF last coached. Unless we have a season with 0 conference wins, last year at least ties for the worst season ever.

Not sure... Maybe because we just had what is possibly the worst season ever."

Wrong. You must be pretty new to Vol football.

"Maybe because we currently have a lower ranked recruiting class than Vandy this year."

Most of the highest recruits don't announce until late in the process; some of the earlier ones change before signing day. And everything right now is just verbals. Did you not know this before now?

"Maybe bc we got blown out in every big game last year."

Did you watch any actual games last year? We had Bama in shock at half-time and they were said to be the best team in the nation.

Maybe because over half of the coaching staff defected after last season.

You don't like Jay Graham vs. whoever was coaching RBs before? Sunseri? I see a head coach who can make adjustments.

"Maybe because Dooley has never proven he can win at any level.

This is true of every coach until they start winning.

"Maybe as Tennessee fans we are not satisfied unless we are competitive and currently we do not seem to be."

What is "currently"? Are you talking 2012 season, July 1, or still dwelling in last season?

"Those are just a few thoughts on some people may be "hating" on Dooley. I personally think he has helped our program and wish him the best.
That last part does not ring true. If you want someone to succeed, you encourage them and you don't go around saying, "I think you suck and I expect you to fail ... but good luck."

Derek Dooley is the orange-wearing head coach of our Tennessee Volunteers. Nothing you wrote justifies hate for him from anybody that claims they support the Tennessee football program.

1. Maybe I should have put possible the worst two seasons ever because it has been since 1910 Tennessee has had two consecutive losing seasons. New to Tennessee Football? 1-6 in the SEC East. Thank God for Vanderbilt.

2. The current recruiting class is lower than Vandy. Just a fact. When it changes and it better, great.

3. Are you kidding about the Bama game. The score was 37-6. Is that close to you? The margins of victory for the opposing team was horrible at best. If you think 37-6 is a "shockingly" close, I rest my case. Did you watch the Arkansas game, a pathetic.

4. There were a lot of coaching defections. I hope the new ones work out but they were what they were - just a fact.

5 Competitive, see above. Cellar dwelling in a already down SEC east is not very competitive. Until some games are won and nails are bitten in the 4th quarter it is absolutley clear we are not competitive.

Now, I certainly don't wish Dooley or Tennessee football to fail. If I did, I would go to the games, throw Tennessee parties and get upset. I think Dooley can pull it out, but I'm not shocked when others do not think so. I really just don''t see how you can be shocked given his record.

Where did I say I was shocked about anything?

You mix your tenses badly between current, are and were; it seems the 2011 and 2012 seasons just blur together as one period in time, for you.

But your bottomline position is that you justify alledged Vol fans to have hate for Dooley. Wow.

Thank you professor big redneck truck but I think your tense issue may be created by diesel fumes.

Based on your avatar I'm sure you are well qualified english critic. Also, I like you style, when all your points have been rebutted change the subject. Breaker breaker 1-9, "Wow." is an incomplete sentence. So is "Just wow." I couldn't read anything else and you get an F. Correct your sentences and we can try this again senior diesel truck.

Until Dooley wins games there will be Dooley haters. That just the way it goes. Sorry to blow your mind.

Really. Bo and Herschel? Vols' rg stinks; has for years now. Bammer and LSU have 5 backs better than UT's starters. Just the truth, painful as it is.

I'm really exited about the impact that CJG will have. I expect that it will free up Chaney to open up more of the playbook and allow for better offensive execution. May prove that Chaney is capable of calling a good game after all, may not. We'll see. Hoping for the best! GBO

Exited? Can't read your avatar on mobile, but is that Exit 48A?

JG was a great hire.

Jay can play the video of himself breaking an 80 yarder vs bammer to get their attention----then show the kickoff return for 82. Stud hoss was JG. We don't have that type of specimen on campus, and won't win big until we do.

Not sure... Maybe because we just had what is possibly the worst season ever. Maybe because we got beat by Kentucky. Maybe because we got beat by a larger margin of victory than any other Tennessee team in history against Ark. last year. Maybe because we finished below Vandy in the east last year. What??? A realist amongst us? Maybe because we haven't been worth a dann since 01. Really wad.

Reading as much about CJG it seems like he has been here for a long time. Kinda hard to believe this will be his first season as a coach.

Very hard to believe. Because its not his first season as a coach. He was a GA at UT in 2005. RB coach at UTC and UTM in 2006 and 2007, respectively. His last job was RB coach at South Carolina, where he coached up Marcus Lattimore.

OK, I have expoused enough D&G for a while. I forgot how excited I used to get before FB season; before I knew wth was going on. Now a realist, I understand that we ain't winning the east, ain't beating bammer, Ga, UF, or SC. It's TALENT and unless you buy a bunch of studs-----(see Nick Saban's first recruiting class) it takes 4-6 years to accumulate enough to compete in the SEC. Fulmer's classes were top 5 for a good while, and when they started dropping off, so did the wins. When you recruit outside the top 20, that's where you finish-----see Vandy forever. Vols need a coach smart enough (see NS) to cheat and get away with it.

Nope. 5-7 beats 4-7 any day.

Bourque is gonna turn out to be a stud.

Agreed! Wouldn't it be great to see Tee back too. Maybe we can get him back someday. Some part of me cringes every time I think of him coaching at USCw.

The running game is only as good as the OL. If the OL is up to par, then UT's running game will be fine. No one is comparing this group of UT RB's to Bo and Herschel. They don't have to be.

Tony Thompson came in after Chuck Webb went down in 1990 and made the All-SEC team...thanks to Charles McRae and Antone Davis.

UT will average 150 YPG this year. Not great, but more than sufficient considering our passing game.

I hope you're not mistaking my comment. Never once have I eluded to being a CJC hater. I actually like him and haven't had the same complaints that others have had. My comment was more directed at those who do hate his play calling. I hope this season shuts them up.

Hey Super, I hope it shuts me up, because much like Bray, I think that all the pieces are there to be a very good OC, I just haven't seen them. Some of the play calling decisions last year in clutch situations just seemed "off" to me. What drive was it that we actually ran it down the opponents throat and had it first and goal, completely changed what we were doing and missed a field goal or turned it over....my memory absolutely sucks on details like that. But those kinds of things are what I am talking about that we have seen for at least two years. Didn't seem them with Sliffin cause he was calling the plays.

The period from 1958 to 1964 was the worst ever. Please don't confuse the bump in the road that we have now with those years. At least two of those years we lost to both Candy and KY Jelly in the same season: '59 we were shutout by both and in '64 we were shutout by Vandy (only scored 81 pts ALL year). It could be worse!

Back to the thread.....if we could just figure out how to get Trooper back. He and CJG would complement each other like peas and carrots!
