Jauan Jennings Wants New Contract

That a simpleton mentality. The 49ers generate 600-700 million a year in total revenue and the franchise is worth 6.8 billion dollars. His value is market driven. As projected WR#2 he (has) and will play a huge role in the offense, especially on 3rd down. The 49ers having been making out like bandits with what he's been getting compensated under his current contract.
Well I will play devils advocate. What other business do you know that shares profit. Why should I make similar money to the guy that owns the place I work for just because I do the work. Even if (preferably) he never helps or comes out to the projects I run and build, it does not entitle me to the profits. If I want the profits I can take the risks and start my own.

Every business that has a collective bargaining agreement to share profit shares their profit. Many that don’t have such an agreement offer bonuses based on profits.

Not a simpleton mentality at all. Simple basic facts. Teams, players, universities, and coaches are way over paid for their entertainment value while the fans get screwed. True, fans pay but I hope we wake up and quit feeding the madness. Greed is at every level! It is way out of hand and is getting worse.

Scarcity of resources drives the price of those resources up. That's how economics works.

No one is going to pay diddly to watch you play football against me, so we won't be paid to play. Guys who play like us are everywhere.

Some people will pay varied amounts to watch XFL or whatever lower level football. Guys like those players are a little harder to find.

People pay big money to watch NFL football because of the quality of the football. Guys that can play NFL level football are NOT very easy to find. They are a scarce resource.

I'm sorry you hate market economics but that's how things work in America.

True, but not most businesses. Most business models the owner holds the profits and reinvest into the company. Many people work for companies and have no idea how much or little that company makes. I’m all for jj getting his but I don’t believe in the current model.

He is beloved by 9ers fans. I hope he gets paid because he puts in a lot of work for them.

To those comparing to NIL and crying big crocodile tears comparing him to Nico, the NFL has a mature contract negotiation structure (salary caps, predictable contract negotiation periods, actual contracts that force you to stay with a team for X years). This happens every year with NFL free agents. Their value shifts rapidly year to year. He sees an opportunity to make more money and really isn't holding a team hostage because EVERYBODY on that team is getting paid generational money win or lose. Plus he only has one year left on his contract. They may agree to just cut him. The NFL is a professional league and negotiations like this happen every off season. It is just a part of the game. Also, Juaun has to convince a new team that his remaining contract value is worth him being picked up. Contracts travel with players in the NFL, unlike NIL which is some nebulous wishy washy system.

JJ is not a free agent. He is under a contract that he freely signed previously.

So, yes, he's being greedy.

U only got so much time to make money in the NFL. He’s moved up on the depth chart and needs to be paid that slot value. If he was asking WR1 money at this point, that would be greedy.
So if he got injured this past year, the 49ers should have reduced his pay?

By your logic, a contract is binding in bad times, but a player should break his contract if things go well. Why have contracts at all?

Screw marriage... I'm playing the field. If a hotter chick comes along, I'm on her.

The current Model is working just fine for the NFL. People have been holding out or negotiating extensions for decades now, and the NFL is the biggest thing in the country. Only Presidential Debates can contend with their viewership numbers.

Half of marriage contracts are bailed on. Jennings hasn’t bailed. He has asked to get an extension or to be traded. Neither thing voids the contract.

Do you feel like teams shouldn’t be allowed to trade or cut players? They signed a contract, after all.

People saying “this is what is wrong with pro ball” are idiots. Dude is in the final year of his contract. All he is asking for is a long term deal and if the 49ers don’t have him in their long term plans then he wants to play for a team that will make that commitment. It’s not like he is 1 year into a multi-year contract threatening to holdout for more money. This is the same league that can franchise tag players to prevent them from going to free agency, cut players without notice to save on the cap, routinely ask players to restructure contracts to circumvent the cap. NFL franchises have all the control but whenever a guy coming up on a contract year wants a new deal he is labeled as “he isn’t honoring his contract.” That’s gold 🤣

He's not holding out of camp at this point. He's asking for a raise. If what I've read is true and guys with similar production are making $10-15 million a year, then he's undervalued. I also believe, if I'm not mistaken, his contract is up next year, so this gives both sides a chance to renegotiate a deal before he hits free agency. Maybe a new 2-3 year deal worth $10 or $11 million a year seems pretty reasonable for both sides.

Well the 49ers have cap room, so they'll hopefully compromise with JJ on a contract extension w more money. It's be a shame if they traded him.

That's because a trained orangutan can do a lot of the work in most businesses.

Pro sports requires an extremely rare human to be enjoyable at a high level. I am not going to watch Joe from the Auto Parts store throw a football to Lester who sells insurance.

They collective bargain because pro athletes have more value to the business than most workers. If some workers WANT collective bargaining, the boss just fires them because their skills are a dime a dozen.

I can’t talk to someone comparing marriage to football. In business or anything with contracts, you can renegotiate. It’s not logic. It’s business. Part of the risk for football managers is injuries to their investment. Now, if he doesn’t show up to play, guess what happens. He doesn’t get paid. Those are his choices and management can pay more or suspend him. Plenty of guys go for the hotter chick everyday.
