Jarvis Giles

IMHO, I think that he decommited b/c he did not want to compete with Oku for PT...you guys will be fine; personally, I always find the way recruits blame things on coaches leaving somewhat of a cop out

I think you're probably right. We are pretty stacked at RB and anytime you make a change in coaching this is to be expected. Still sucks though. As long as we can hang onto Tajh Boyd.

If there was one highly rated recruit we could afford to lose it was Giles since we have Oku...but it still sucks...he really looked like a playmaker....but good luck to him...

If Giles sole reason for leaving was indeed the coaching change then wouldn't it be ironic if Spurrier leaves in the next few years like alot of people think he will...

It would be especially ironic if we are back at the top of the SEC in that same timeframe after making the right HC hire

Let's just hope Oku has the grades to get in.

Exactly my thoughts! :salute:

The right coach could bring in a few kids we never recruited as well.

Drayton should be terminated, now. He and whichever coaches have "quit" on the recruiting trail like our players have on the field.

Exactly, good luck to Giles, I just hope that he knows that now he will never know what it feels like to stand in an orange and white checkered inzone. Especially playing for USC. :wavey:

LOL @ him wanting to play for South Carolina.

Yay, I committed to a perennial SEC cellar-dweller. I am sure he will go on to much NFL fame and fortune like so many South Carolina players before him...

Ironically UT is the one in the cellar. Maybe that has something to do with him leaving...

Tampa (Fla.) Gaither four-star running back Jarvis Giles has been committed to Tennessee since the summer and was all set to be a Vol until it was announced that head coach Phillip Fulmer would not return next season. That combined with an official visit to South Carolina over the weekend has led to Giles officially de-committing from Tennessee.

"I'm going to be calling them (Tennessee's coaches) today and set everything right and let them know I'm officially de-committing," the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Giles said. "I've been with them a long time and I want to handle it the right way, but it's not the right situation for me."

Giles said his visit to Columbia could not have gone any better.

"All of the goals that I had going into the South Carolina were taken care of," he said. "Any doubts that I had were erased after I talked to coach (Steve) Spurrier and coach 'G' (Robert Gillespie) and the players like Akeem (Auguste) and E. Cook (Emanuel Cook). They just eased my mind and made me feel so comfortable It was a perfect visit."

Giles, who runs the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds, said several things stood out to him on the visit.

"Just how cool the players are for one thing," he said. "They have a lot of players up there from Florida, so I know I would fit in. Coach G is such a cool cat, and I'd to play for a guy like him. He's not from Florida, but he played at Florida, so he knows what I'm like. Just having a chance to play for a coach like Steve Spurrier is a great thing, too."

Giles liked what he heard from Spurrier in their meetings.

"He's one of the funniest cats ever," he said. "I'm a goofy kind of guy that likes to have fun when the time's right, and that's how he is, too. He was singing and having a great time. He also got down to business and let me know that I'm the kind of player they're missing. He said he wasn't going to fill me up with bullcrap. He knew I saw in the game that I could be like a missing piece of the puzzle for them, and that if I want to break records, he can give me that chance."

With all this talk about cats maybe he should just go to Kentucky.
