A hot route receiver isn't changing the play it is adjusting to the defense which I clearly said in my last post, The TE Motion is to see if they are in man or zone coverage.
You're splitting hairs.
The play was called in from the sideline. #12 immediately recognized the coverage, he moved the TE to isolate the slot receiver. The route combo had to be communicated to both the slot and the wideout. He communicated protection to the Oline... all this in about 5 seconds.
Not sure what more you're wanting him to do. If it's choosing between the any of the plays we can run from a given set, I would much rather that call come from the box where there is a team of offensive experts with an All22 view of the field to choose the play.
