Jarrett Guarantano

He was throwing off his back foot A LOT. I mean A LOT. It didn't look like a junior who had been in the system for 3 years. I don't think the cause is lack of game experience. It seems to be lack of fundamental coaching. I could be wrong but he very seldom stepped into his throws. It's not like GT was sacking him left and right. I saw things last night that just didn't seem to make sense for a guy who supposedly had the starting job locked up according to many on here.

Dormady had a better second half but still didn't impress me that much. He wasn't throwing the ball with confindence and our offense looked better passing the ball with Josh Dobbs and it isn't even close.

Forget all of the people who claim that Dormady would improve the passing game from day 1. He is mediocre and I don't see us winning 8 games with him at QB all year, I hope he improves and can change my mind.

He is gonna have to improve or Florida won't even need a Offensive TD to beat us, they will score multiple times on Defense if Dormandy makes decisions like he did last night! JMHO!

People will have blind faith in an unproven coach to the point of tearing down a teenager. It makes no sense to me when Butch has given you so much evidence that he isn't a good leader. I'm taking the more likely the path of saying hey look at the ADULT.

Oh but it can't be his fault. Jones is the second coming of Christ right? I mean look how much better than Dooley he is.

You feeling okay, MWA? There was nothing in the post you quoted about Butch. It was 100% about JG. And mostly cautionary, certainly not critical.

Maybe you hit "reply" to the wrong post....

I'm agreeing with you. People are judging this kid when there is a coach with mountains of issues of his own.

You are right. You could be wrong.

I don't have a bias. My opinion of Jones is based on 4+ years of public blunders. Not conjecture. Actual documented @sshat behavior. Your opinion is based on seeing JG on the sideline for ONE game.

Where do you think I have been for the last four years?
Where is your documentation?
And I was not blasting JG, as I just said that I was disappointed.
But you act like you know everything that was said and CBJ is at fault for everything.
As another poster said, UT could totally dominate a game and win by 70 points and some UT fans would still complain about the team and/or CBJ.
There are a lot of posters who, while never having actually coached, seem to have all of the answers.
I do not agree with everything I see from the UT football team and coaches, but I am humble enough and realistic enough to know that the coaches know more than I do about their team and football in general.

And I know that this will come as a shock to you, but you could be wrong.

Insider Info from a QB way down the list at UT. JG had a verbal confrontation with CBJ when informed that QD would be the starter. That's why he got no reps last night. Depending on if they work something out this week JG will play meaningful reps this Saturday. If Not, look for tranfer.
I guess we'll see

You don't think the pressure from the defense had anything to do with it? Dormady's fundamentals are solid. He made some bad decisions but he didn't get much help from his team early on.

Hopefully, he and his team will learn and improve.

By the way, I am the furthest thing from a Jones fanboy. However, he did right by not benching Dormady for a pouting RS freshman primadonna.

Because of this negative news coverage things are assuredly going to go south with JG. You can almost see it coming now. But people willingly ignore the man who built this culture "brick by brick".

I can't wait to hear of Butch backs up JG or throws him under the bus at the presser the way he did with Hurd .

The coaches decision proved to be right!!!

Don't ge tme wrong in the second Quarter I said if Dormady came back in I was jumping on the fire Butch wagon.

But sometimes the coach does know best! What questionable decision did he make last night? He won the game, it wasn't pretty but we Won!

Wins and losses are what you measure a coach by, right?

Oh, I see. I misread. :hi:

But still, I wouldn't fire any pellets at Butch over this, either. For all we know, he's being a genius right now by nipping another Hurd-style schism in the bud, before it can sour the locker room.

We simply don't know much at all.

Butch hasn't punched anyone in the gut this week, that we're aware of, heh.

Let's wait and see how JG responds in the coming week or two.

Go Vols!

Sure love you some Hurd, dontcha?

He a relation, or sumtin'?

Dormady's numbers aren't that bad - hasn't thrown an int.

He got VERY lucky to not. Some of his throws were inaccurate and into heavy coverage. Even some of the long completions to Calloway were bad. Against better defenses he must be better.

I don't think there was that much pressure from the D. I didn't see it. How many times did they actually lay hands on QD? I was very uncomfortable with how he threw off his back foot rather than staying in the pocket and throwing with authority. It just didn't look like junior level preparedness.

Maybe he looks different as the year goes on. I only know what I saw last night.

But....He is the coach.

Same as a donkey being a donkey.

They have imperfections too.

The donkey ultimately decides who stays in the saddle.

Who wins...

The donkey.

What did CBJ say about Hurd in a press conference and when?

Even though he is a junior, it was his first start and first significant playing time. There is a lot of pressure that comes with that. The fact is, he settled down and led his team to a victory.

It's interesting how we heard ZERO all spring/summer long and now all of a sudden on opening day a guy decides to be a Prima Donna? Supposedly we had not one but TWO really great quarterback. I don't buy it. Someone is and has been being dishonest to everyone.

And sure,it's none of my business and Jones doesn't owe me anything. But you lie in the bed you make. Only you can choose to cover it up or be honest .

I hope you are right because he is going to face MUCH better defenses in the future than this mid tier ACC can put up against him.

Or, maybe JG was expected to be way beyond QD, and for whatever reason never separated from the pack. Maybe lack of prep. Maybe thinking he didn't have to earn it. Maybe not panning out to be as good as recruiting rank. Whatever the reason. Regardless of what coaches say, the majority of the time the best player rises to the top. Or the best LEADER. The 2nd best talent can be the best choice for LEADER and accomplish much, much more.

One thing you have to say about Dormady, is he never sulked one time, not one time! And there were times people were calling for him to be in there. In fact, we were one fourth down incompletion against Georgia from seeing it happen two years ago, but QD didn't pout or sulk. So, he's getting his chance, as he should. JG will get his chance if he sticks around, if he's too good to do that, then audios!

Lol.

Lol.

Any fan. Ask any fan. Dobbs ( love him ) but he would of lost this game.
Qd got his head scratched all in the first half. But, seriously kid came back and won the game.

He keeper on the last read option - nailed it. Opened up so much space for John.

Don't kid yourself.

Dobbs would have won this game much more easily. He wouldn't have struggled so much in the first half even with the drops. He would have used his legs to pick up some first downs and keep the D off the field a little more. It would have been a different game.

QD is first time starter. He had to shake off some nerves and the WRs needed to help him more in the 1st half. Once everyone settled down he did what needed to be done.

I do think JG should have gotten a shot early. At least a series of two. Once we got behind and the defense wasn't slowing them down it would have been a disruption to what little rhythm they were showing.

I get JG's frustration. I'm sure the coaches will talk to him about his engagement on the sideline. It will be a learning moment for him. Not ready to throw him under the bus without a chance to correct his behavior.

Ainge tells a good story about how pissed he was when he was pulled after 2 series in the 05 UAB game after leading the team to a 10-0 start. You have to remember he is a 19 years old. Maybe not everyone is a mature as you (I say that generally) were or at least think you were at 19.

Dormady looks bad and Calloway bailed him out a couple of times. JG should have been in. He is young though. You have to cut him some slack.
I agree. QD should have been pulled during the first half. GUARANTANO could have given the offense a spark with his running ability.
