He could be a great QB if he had a line that would do their job.

It won't matter how good the oline's blocking technique is if he never learns to pick up a blitz, call out protection changes, or at the very least, to step up on the pocket instead of just eating the sack or dumping the pass off to his check-down receiver behind the LOS.

There's a lot more to being a good Division I QB, than just having a strong arm.

Average. He protects the ball well but struggles on long accuracy. He has a chance to be Good+ if he can read some defenses and blitzes. Then learn to move a little in the pocket.
I would have to second this post. Very accurate IMO. JG needs to get rid of ball sooner but it could be that he is holding on to long because he cant read the defense. You have to admire his toughness. Plus he seems like a good kid.

It is well documented how you feel about JG. Your opinion is welcome on this poll for certain. I am curious why you voted "average" considering the large number of critical posts about his performance?

He can never become a good QB if the line isn't giving him time to do anything. Goes both ways. Go back and watch the bulk of the games, within the first second or two. the O line is already 3 to 4 feet back from the line of scrimmage. Not good.

I agree with him and put average considering JG has shown that ability to move around at times such as the KY game.

Yep. If JG played a version of football where the defense could never put pressure on him I bet he would be fantastic.

Just wanted to post a poll as my first ever started thread. This based off a comment made I made earlier in a thread. Just want to see the sites overall opinion of JG's performance as our starting QB.
Where's the OL performance poll. You can't have this one for the QB without one on the OL.

Overall, all things considered, he's performed pretty well. It would benefit him to see blitzes and pressure better and to make quicker decisions sometimes. He's tough but sometimes unnecessarily.

Pysically speaking meaning arm strength, ability to "spin it", accuracy, etc. JG is good with potential to be Good+ with a better OL.
Mentally- reading defenses, getting in the correct run set, picking up blitzs and calling correct protection packages he has a ways to go. But sometimes the light just comes on for these guys so the jury is still out. He currently is on pace to be average but VN sure hopes he surprises us in a Jonathan Crompton kind of way!

I guess it would depend on the area we are ranking him. He possesses some very strong qualities. Toughness, character, and dedication immediately come to mind. He does struggle reading defense especially the blitz etc but does throw a good tight ball. I wish for his sake our OL and TEs can become a strength that will give him every opportunity he needs to progress hopefully into a well developed SEC quarterback. I personally have a lot of respect for the type of kid he is. Obviously was raised right and I’m glad he’s a Vol.

You my friend win the dumb comment award of the day!!!lol If you didn't see the O line get pushed around all season, then you have the same eyesight as Stevie Wonder. No one! Not even Manning could have played well with that line. Go back and watch the games!

I know you think he's awful, but I think you've backed into what JG is. On a good team, he'd be seen as a game manager with a good arm. On a bad team, he's a guy that won't lose you the game, but not good enough to take over a game.

I agree...if we are able to change the issues next season with OL etc that's been discussed ad nauseum the poll next year would look completely different...or least one would hope so.....I guess the starting QB on any team is the most loved and hated person on the team...nature of the position and goes really with any area of leadership...Good poll by the way...

Great vision, reads his checks with the best, able to scramble to save a play, mobile in the pocket, reads blitzes on par with Tom Brady... man I could go on and on.
