I remember Toney running all over Maryville last year in the first game for Maryville. Alcoa did not run a single pass play that game. It was over in the first quarter. Maryville stopped Alcoa's run game on just one series.

Do you remember who won?...:)

didn't maryville, because i heard Aloca had a eight year losing streak

No, Alcoa whooped us this year. Beat Maryville 41-24. They also beat the KY State champs from a few years back by a fair margin. They may be AA, but they were legit. Toney is a good football player. Not the most talented, but a good one that always finds a way to come up with big plays. He's definitely a gamer

Emit Smith was no 171 lbs. Reminds me of the scene from Waterboy where there's a clip of a team trying out their water boy b/c Bobby Boucher is such a success. This little scrawny dude totally gets laid out. :chair:

As a walk on we cannot lose. Hope to sing Rocky Top for him after his first TD.

Again, most of those small guys who excelled were super fast. This guy apparently isn't that fast. That does not mean he will not be the next UT all-american, but he will have to prove himself I guess.

sorry but when you score fifty freakin td's in a single season for ALCOA for god's sake, you have earned a scholly somewhere!
I agree that those are impressive numbers but alcoa is a power house and always dominate. they look like they play against pee wee teams

They didn't look like they were playing against pee wee teams when they whipped Maryville's ass last year.

How can you argue my point and make it in the same sentence? I really hope you're not studying law. Really makes me worry.

I think his only point is Alcoa whipped Maryville's Arse last year. Thats all he is trying to say.

Kids got some sick numbers, really sick actually, but I'm just not seeing the break away speed. He is fairly shifty, but just doesn't seem that fast to only be 165lbs. This is against AA talent in Tennessee, and he is just not getting much separation. That has to be what is hurting him. His speed is not that great to be that small. If you are going to be small and play Div.1 football, you better be able to scoot. I wish him all the luck in the world, and I'm glad he is walking on. UT has nothing to lose and maybe the kid can prove the doubters wrong.

I agree. What I watched was some very good holes opened and very good blocking being done. He did have some good runs but was never the fastest guy on the field. He can make guys miss but I think his team just blocks really well and makes him look better than he actually is.

the reason i linked the post from march on prep xtra was so you could see the comments by coach rankin on him... a later article on him states he has walked on at ut.... this post was an attempt to start a discussion /debate on taking players who have marginal size or speed but impressive stats, i.e. gamers who score td's... the most impressive stat in football.... the sec is littered with players who excel after being overlooked, cobb uk and bennett wr vandy are the two that stand out in my mind... neither were the fastest but both very elusive... and by the way, they seemed to know how to put six on the board

Impressive stats... he absolutely has. He hits the holes hard, follows his blockers and lets the play happen but looks like he is fairly easy to bring down in the open field. I just don't see this guy scoring that many td's without the blocking he has. I would say without those holes he doesn't score half the td's. Looks like he could be coached up easily... He has great field of vision, carries the ball well and follows his blockers really well but lacks the speed to make great plays on his own... JMO

What's his 40 time then highspeed?

Who knows, but you can see in the video posted that the WRs blocking for him down field are faster.

That said, the way he bounced off a couple of those guys and kept his balance, he reminded me a bit of Travis Stephens. But smaller and slower. So...

Apparently he has good character so it's not a big risk to allow him to walk on and give it a try. He does have good vision and elusiveness but lacks in size and speed. Maybe after a couple years in the UT workout room he will put on 20 lbs of muscle and gain a little more speed. We shall see.

After watching his highlight tape, I couldnt agree more. Shifty yes, fast - not so much.
