Jarnell Stokes Gets Into A Fight ...

Stokes seems like a very laid back person. I don't think he would take no crap from no one but I don't think he would start nothing either. In hockey players fight to a bloody knockout even with their sticks & the crowd cheers. In baseball the pitcher throws a 95 mph ball & hits the batter intentionally both teams rush the field in a brawl, but you don't hear about anger issues only in football & basketball.

Well, the other team doesn't shoot technicals for a teammate fight. The only thing that I can think of is that the NBA DL just doesn't want that image and sent them to the locker room to cool off.

or to the locker room to 'FINISH IT" :eek:lol:

Yeah... What's the deal? I thought he was playing with the Grizzlies. Did they send him back down to the DL? Didn't know they did that mid-year. Didn't he start at one point this season?

You watched Stokes for three years. I'm pretty sure you can see if he had anger issues or not. To me it looked like Kalin swiped at Jarnell first as he was sitting down.

I always thought Kalin had an attitude

I was at the Grizzlies game on MLK Day vs Dallas in Memphis. I could have sworn that I saw Stokes during warm ups and during the time outs. I even commented to my son about recognizing him. He was also featured in the media guide, so I am sure he was on the roster that day.
This D-League play must be from a few months ago.

Lol he goes back and forth from D-League to the NBA. Just depends on the week and if they need him or not.

Hopefully not. I wonder if Stokes has anger problems? He doesn't need to be labeled as a loose cannon early on in his career.

Word is Stokes is a little disenfranchised with his transition to the pros. He's not quite ready to run the floor with the big boys and that can frustrate a player who thinks he should or has to wait his time.

He also fought/punched Quinton Cheivous his first year here.

Not much of a fight from what I heard. Also, it happened IN practice, not because he was hitting on his girl. Cheivous thought Stokes was being a little rough with him on defense and decided to push him and get in his face. Didnt end up too well for him, and Stokes had to sit out for a game because of a "hand injury"...

He will be just fine. Stokes is on a team loaded with front court depth. Heck, they cut Hassan Whiteside TWICE this year. That says a lot IMO about what they think of Stokes and his future there.

I don't understand why. At the beginning of the season, Dave Joerger publicly stated that Stokes and Jordan Adams would not play this year. He has gotten more play than I have expected. He has played in mop up time and also played decent minutes when 5 players were out with a stomach bug.

I heard that the NBA has now allowed unlimited moves to the NBA DL. There used to be a cap.

So, that allows the Grizzlies to move them when they want to get more experience or keep them with the team if players are hurt. They flew Lucas and maybe someone else in the day of the game against Toronto when 5 guys were out.

Someone in the crowd posted a video up close on Twitter, Jarnell had Lucas around the neck, 3 of his teammates were trying to pull him off and Jarnell still took Lucas to the grown, the video stops there so hard to tell if punches were thrown once Jarnell took him down but you can here teammates yelling "let go of him Jarnell" lol

yea, like SJA said, they'll call him up if they need him (i.e. Z-bo's recent knee injury, etc)--or if there's a break in Iowa's schedule-- but they'll send him back to the Developmental League for work if they don't need him. It's really a much more fluid situation than calling someone up in baseball. And they consider him a much bigger part of the Grizz than Kalin Lucas.

Realistically, it's prob better for Stokes to get full game work in Iowa, instead of getting DNPs or only a couple mins in Memphis. And he still gets to practice and learn from the guys in Memphis quite a good deal.

Not really even a knock on Stokes. From most accounts the team is pretty high on him, but the Grizz are just too deep with veteran talent, esp in the front court, for him to get many mins right now (Gasol, Z-bo, Jeff Green, Koufos, Leuer). Their first rounder (Jordan Adams--Guard) has stayed in the D-League most of the time too this season, and the Grizz cut Hassan Whiteside twice in the fall (and he just dropped a trip-doub with 12 blocks for the Heat).

Still think things look up for Stokes.

What's he's gotten and what people whisper in his ear are two different things. He's learning patience and the praise is keeping him patient. As long as he keeps the hanger ins at bay he'll be fine. It's those you should be starting people.
