Maybe it shouldnt be here but is it that big of a deal? You don't have to read it and it has its own thread. Easily skippable.

This is my favorite forum on here because we usually stay on topic unlike the RF and FF. Nothing against discussing religion, just not here. You're probably right, I'll just sit the rest of this one out...

It is a basketball story. I understand both sides. But it's not like a thread was derailed with it.

These days, people are too smart for their own good. They are book smart and have a piece of paper in a frame in their office or in their house to prove to you that they are supposedly smart.
However; Jesus said that the Lord would confound the smart. What he meant was that those people are too smart to understand common sense things. So, they can't wrap their minds around Jesus Christ & God.
I am sure you have heard the story of how intelligent Albert E. was, but did you know he had extreme difficulty in tying his shoes???? He was too smart to understand the simple things in life that the common everyday man can plainly see.
In Romans, it says " I have given you the true word of GOd, but you chose to believe a lie"
IN Genesis, the Lord plainly tells of how the world and how mankind was created but the supposedly intellectual type chose to believe a lie that evolution is correct.

This is pure nonsense.

It's probably hard for you to have your idea of God rejected by someone else. It's a lot easier to write it off as "they don't understand" then it is to accept that an understanding person still rejected.

More than 70% of scientists that published in peer-reviewed journals over the last 25 years believe in God. Yet you let random nonsense drivel from a forum post justify your claims about superstition.

What is the difference between superstition and religion? I feel like Christians use that term to denigrate earthy religions, but there doesn't seem to be a real dictionary difference between superstition and "ordinary" religions.

Quite a bit. Enough to know that no matter what you believe from the Bible, you have to decide that some of it is literal, and some of it is figurative. It can't all be literal, otherwise it would contradict itself (one God vs 3 Gods).

With that being said, if what you read in the Bible completely contradicts logic and reason (like the great flood happened a few thousand years ago), then maybe you shouldn't take your interpretation of that story literally.

i was just being smart not trying to have a discussion.....i really dont think u have studied it the way you feel that you have. im torn about what i believe and definitely dont live like i believe anything. i know from personal experience that my dad was pretty much an alcoholic and has always loved studying history. He started studying different religions around the world. After much studying, he said he found truth in christianity and gave his life to god. At that moment, he never had another drink in his life and is a completely changed man.

There are no different interpretations in the bible and to hear him tell it and show you the meaning is pretty amazing. That being said, i still dont attend church or live a christian lifestyle. I dont understand the negativity towards others that do believe though.

Just wondering why it took 10 games for Jesus to hear about this foot washing ceremony. Shouldn't the results have been immediate?

As a believer, I always marvel at the rage a positive, Christ-filled message (or story in this case) brings out in people. The reaction is completely scriptural, but astounding to watch unfold.

Reference: Psalm 14:1, Luke 4- specifically verses 28-30.

I've got no "rage" against OP. I have issues with a couple of the follow up posts that said you're selfish or dumb if you don't believe in Jesus.

I get the distinct feeling that he's aiming at me.. which is ironic since I am a devout Christian.

I think your bible misunderstands some people. It seems to paint with a broad brush. But, it can be a divisive tool, which might have been the priority as it was being constructed.

If that's what it is, then it's a really bad one since it essentially tells you that you can't help yourself.

I meant that I think some people look for a meaning and help for their particular life situation in the book. Looking for justification for what they want to do, need to do or should do.

DownTheField, I apologize. I believe I misunderstood your post. 3 hours of sleep can mess with one's reading comprehension. :)

The cross was meant to be confrontational because it asks you to give up your life, follow Christ and admit that you need him for salvation. One has to not only believe with your head but also your heart. This change is a God thing and nothing we can say or do will change you. First, you have to see the light and I pray that you and everyone else on here comes to that belief before it's too late. We as believers are commanded to share our faith and it's nothing more than that. God bless you brother.

If you ever decide to seek more, please visit a local church that puts Christ first above all else, you will be eternally grateful you did.

Glory to God, thanks be to Christ, and Go Vols!
