Kiffin started this precedent when he actively recruited CONVICTED RAPIST Daniel Hood. Six years ago a boy named Daniel Hood raped and assaulted his 14- year-old cousin, with the help of an accomplice, but due to his age he was tried as a minor. He received no jail time, and there was little retribution for the victim. Daniel Hood stood in his bedroom on Aug. 11, 2003, and watched as his 17-year-old friend, Robert Sanico, rape a 14-year-old girl. The girl was sodomized with a foreign object, while her body lay helplessly wrapped in duct tape. To compound the matter, Hood helped wrap her in the duct tape (CNN, 2003).
In fact, he's not the only member of the team with a record at the University of Tennessee. A second recruit, Dwayne "Deejay" Hunter, just had a court hearing for allegedly assaulting his 17-year-old girlfriend after their prom, which is the second assault accusation of that sort with the same girlfriend. This young man, who also plays good defense, is probably one of the most respected and looked up to young men on our team. However, he was arrested for violating the terms of his bond from an incident in which he shot a 15-year-old in the face twice with a gun from a vehicle
Tennessee football players have been in at least 20 incidents involving shoplifting, assault, gun charges, motor vehicle citations, disturbing the peace, failing drug tests and sexual assault(USA Today, 2009).The school has devoted resources and considerable effort to the issue of student-athlete conduct.
At least three full-time employees of the football program have duties that include, steering players from trouble. How many employees are there to steer regular students from trouble? On top of the precautions that the football program enlists to keep the players out of trouble, a full-time police officer from the Knoxville Police Department has been assigned to act as liaison between the Tennessee football players and the police department and to counsel players.
Seems Kiffin is intent on building the new Tennessee Football empire on thugs, convicted rapist, armed robbers and felons. What a grand reputation and example for this school. Everyone looks the other way and acts surprised when yet another 3 team members commit attempted robbery. With Kiffin I think this is the tip of the iceburg............and everyone looks away because this team generates so much cash!!! Karma comes full circle.............I don't think Tennessee will be any good until the coach and his staff reward upstanding players and stop rewarding criminals in their quest to be the best..........
