Jancek: Dobbs Has Been "Carving Up Defense" All Year

Did Dobb's family not ask the staff to red-shirt him??

That's the rumor and getting Dobbs 5 years of paid for education is totally logical for a brilliant kid like him.

I'd guess that buTch woulod have loved to have Dobbs for 3 more years instead of the 2 we'll now have him for.

THINK people...All reports were that Dobbs passing was really bad so starting him game 1 would probably mean lots more INT's.

Also if you have a QB that can run but he can't pass well thern the D will still stack the box to stop whoever is runing because they'll have zero respect for our passing game.

Not being able to run or pass still leads to lots of Losses.

buTch hates to lose and he wants a bowl game just as badly as any of us does and he knows our very young team needs those 15 extra practices to help them get better faster.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

I think it was answered:

If he'd said "all season", I would ask the same question you're inferring. Instead, it seems Dobbs hit a turning-point a few weeks ago. Butch was probably trying to see if (a) it would stick, and (b) if he could get through the season without burning the redshirt so late in the season--again.

if u believe this, something about an oceanfront property, kansas or iowa, and tons of cash comes to mind as a question towards you real soon. smmfh

Rucker says Dobbs was throwing passes into the ground in fall camp.

Rucker: SpaceDobbs calls his shot for Tennessee Vols football

Coaches did not know what they had to start the year. Let's end this debate about whether Worley or Dobbs should have started week 1. Key point is that he is playing good now. Let's get these next three Wins to close the season strong.

Yeah, u would just love for this to just "go away" after all the negative things you had to say about Dobbs huh? Sad

I just think if we are sitting here with a Florida win this is not a big deal. But the loss to UF is what is fueling this, "How did we not play Dobbs" thing.

Would explain why JW rarely kept on a read option or was given the call to run in Butches scheme. After watching Blair bust, the LT get an ACL, and OU's D beat JW to a pulp ... Butch surely had doubts about such a plan getting us to a bowl.

I think Justin's season will give him a shot to play in the League. Every coach and expert thinks highly of him. But, his mobility is just not that good. And with possibly the worst offensive line in the nation BCS conference wise, he was going to have a near impossible time staying healthy much less leading us to a bowl game.

Beat FLA and we're not having this discussion!! So his plan IMO!! was close. Also not sure they saw OL taking so long. I maybe way off but really think he thought he could do both and give us best shot for future!! But with everything out in open now I'm not sure he would change a thing. It's all going to work out now and I'm not so sure letting Dobbs play murders row would of been good either, or he may be the one hurt!!!:good!:

Couldn't agree MOARE!!! Yes I desperately wanted to beat FLA just like anybody else whom has followed this rivarly for pretty much their entire lives. However we didn't... but we could have right?!

You're spot on.

However.... we lose to FLA, they beat UGA like a drum this weekend, they proceed to probably lock up the east.

This is all obviously just part of Butch's master plan to keep Muschump (not sic) at FLA for another 5 years minimum!!! And he even got Richt to buy into the process too! (blue font, tin foil hat, whatever other option you like :) but mostly just humor)

Everyone wants to be upset with the coaches. I seriously don't get it.

1) Was Dobbs better then Worley when the competition was going on in summer?

2) When did Dobbs start showing this much improvement over last year?

3) Do we know that Dobbs didn't ask that if all possible could he redshirt this year and grow as a QB as well as work on his schooling more?

What do we not know? Is there definite answers to these questions or is all the armchair coaches right and Butch needs to be fired for not doing the right thing all along?

Honestly

Not a single solitary SOB on here knows anything about what went on, was going on, or is going on

I'm just glad we have a QB that will move with the ball when pressured

Funny you say that because I was just watching SEC Network's UT-FL game recap on demand. Seeing all these situations where the offense just couldn't seem to execute in the redzone, I keep thinking to myself (almost yelling at the TV) "DOBBS WOULD HAVE DOMINATED HERE!"

And wouldn't it have been perfect for Butch Jones to respond to FL burning their redshirt QB (Treon Harris was a redshirt right? I might be wrong about that) by burning his redshirt QB? who would've likely carried them to a sweet victory over the gators?
Yes in hindsight it all makes sense, but if you were Butch Jones in that moment, you probably would have done the same thing. Especially considering the fact that we would have Worley for an extra year if it weren't for Doofus' burning that redshirt out of desperation, you wouldn't want to make that mistake twice. That would be extremely risky behavior for a head coach. I think Butch Jones did what he had to do, only when he had to do it and not before. He was being smart. We can't blame him for that. If only he had precognitive abilities he could have known! Hindsight is 20/20 blah blah blah...

Let's just be glad we found a QB and a damn good one at that.

I think if our line could have played better We would have seen Worley lead the SEC in passing. Dobbs right now looks like the best running QB in the country or at least tied with Marshall . I would like to know if we could somehow hire the guy who taught them both in qb camp this past summer.(George Whitfield)

Words of a true sage. Thanks Count.... However, they're, certainly, entitled to express their opinion, as we all are. Again, a cut-to--the chase post if I've ever read one. Thanks...

No... Because that'll make you a negavol. They had their reasons for not putting our duel threat qb out there to run our read option spread offense. Don't be hating

No ...just don't pull out your wang like this jackass and piss all over the program...THAT makes you a Negavol! :yu:

Well he's in now, so lets roll with it. I believe the only game we would have won with Dobbs is the Fla game, and the karma we have with them is so bad he probably would have gotten hurt the 1st quarter. Enjoy riding the Dobbs train and never look back, it's not healthy.

I'll answer for you. He needs to improve on his passing accuracy. And possibly reading a defense.

Yes, Dobbs does need to tighten up his accuracy and I'm sure he will. At times it's the easier, more routine throws that seem to give him trouble. But just for the sake of context, his accuracy as a whole isn't that bad at all ....

Peyton Manning career comp% at UT.... 62.5%, including 60.2% as a senior

Tee Martin career comp% at UT.... 55.4%, including 54.1% as a senior

Joshua Dobbs career comp% at UT thru 7 game appearances....59.1%. This includes 4.5 games as a true freshman when he wasn't ready to play, with very little to throw to.

I think Jancek put this quote out there so the football forum would have something to debate about until the Kentucky game.

Justin Worley was the ticket to a bowl game and a full extra year of Josh Dobbs to win that National Championship until we failed to score a touchdown in two consecutive games. Quite simple, the whole thought process!
