He has decided the University president's office should be moved from the Knoxville campus because of "bad feelings" the other UT outposts have toward the flagship. Where do we find these imbeciles? It is unimaginable that a university can consistently put buffoons like this in executive roles. Simek is a disgrace and the Board of Trustees that signed off on him should be recalled. An utter disgrace.

So the state University system shouldn't be headquartered in it's Flagship institution?

That makes total sense.

What a moron.

The President's office has set the University back 100 years in the past twelve months.

all i know is the education i received @ UT in the 90's was respected-----for a university to have been ranked in the 400's of all colleges/university's nationallly this past month(granted ratings aren't the end all be all) you would think that the people making decisions for our beloved UT would be concentrating on more important things than this.
concentrate on funding the flagship school and bringing it back to prominence nationally before this s*#t.

according to the article in the News Sentinel it will still be in Knoxville just not at the top of the Andy Holt Tower.

That's like moving the White House to Alaska, just so Alaskans won't feel left out.

I was in Athens for a conference earlier this week and I was really blown away by their commitment to teaching, research and service and it all stems from leadership. We have been a ship without a rudder for 10 years now. We have had 5 presidents over the past 10 years or so and Simek is the consumate suck-up to the faculty senate thus his two interim appointments as Chancellor and President. Cheek better get a hold on this place before it is literally run into the ground.

I don't like Jan Simek at all. He was at my brother's graduation this year, he is an ugly man who appears to be so distant from students and professors.

On top of that, I was always opposed to this bull idea about "decentralizing" to make other campus "feel better". All campuses serve different purposes. Flagship should have the most resources to achieve the highest possible academic and research capacity and represents the public education of the state. Other much smaller campuses provide people around the state public education opportunities, just like state-run community colleges. Look at all those big ten states, and east coast states, that's how it should work.

I remember his last tenure was at UF. Let me say this, Simek is the devil sent by gators to distract the development of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Go away Simek!

I reminded of Al Pacino's role as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman. "I oughta take a flamethrower to this place."

Where the heck is the motivation coming from for all this watering down of the Knoxville campus anyway? I just don't understand the logic of moving away from the flagship campus model.
