I rewatched the Fiesta Bowl/BCS title game the other night and forgot some things about that game. Like both us and FSU played a pretty sloppy game alot of turnovers and penalties it was a bit of a defensive slug fest but both Tennessee and FSU did have great defenses that season. The two big plays that turned the game in our favor was the Dewayne Goodrich pick 6 and the Peerless Price touchdown catch in the 4th to give us a 20-9 lead. I also forgot that FSU got the ball back with about 2 minutes left in the game with a chance to tie or win. Still was the biggest UT football win i’ve ever seen in my 47 years of life and i needed to watch it again in its entirety. We had so much talent on those teams in the mid to late 90’s i guess i took it for granted then. Also it got kinda annoying with Keith Jackson and how they kept going on about it being his last game to call and he was retiring especially Bob Griese. Still an era of college football i def miss.

I definitely remember where I was on that night. I remember driving down to west town mall after the game. They had a store opened up selling National Championship merchandise, and it was a must to go buy it asap at around midnight.

Also, the regret of not going to that game was a driving force for going to Omaha for the World Series Finals. No way did I want to have that regret again.

Yea he took some chances , some hit and some didn’t, but obviously the two biggest ones did to Peerless Price of 76 and 79 yards which led to 14 points and the good guys getting the win and natty.

People never stop to realize when they're in the "good ole days". Like from reading twitter and this forum at times re: the baseball team, you'd think we haven't been to 5 straight at least super regional finishes, 3 CWS, and a natty. Only baseball program in the country to have more than 2 straight super regional appearances or better in a row currently too. Can look at some of the basketball fandon too, complaining about "only" elite 8 appearances, when Rick Barnes has had us consistently better than we've literally ever been.

Does one well to stop and smell the roses sometimes.

And then he didn’t even retire.

It doesn't get near the attention that it should. But you cannot neglect to remember that open field tackle by our punter David Leaverton on Peter Warrick, who was the most terrifying open field runner in all of college football. FSU may have torn the game open right there, had that play not been made. David had a lot of raw talent but was a little bit erratic kicking the ball. But as of this moment he is a Vol legend and always will be.

Yea you are right that was a HUGE play by Leaverton if he doesn’t make that tackle then Warrick takes that for 6 and the game probaly goes a different way.

Lightweight!😂

4 of us went and set up 2 keg systems for a buddies birthday party the next night and we blew one of those kegs that night with a total of 6 people. Sucked! Had to get another keg for the next day to bring back.

When Weinke was lost for the season in November he was completing 50% of his passes. I don’t think he would have made much of a difference.

Weinke was a statue we would’ve got pressure on him all night, Outzen could scramble some and we still sacked him like 4 or 5 times and constantly harassed him. We would’ve won anyway if Weinke had of played we were a team of destiny that season.

FSU ended the regular season beating Florida rather easily with Outzen. When Florida State moved into 2nd after the conference championships, that was not an outcome I wanted. I thought with or without Weinke we were going to have a tough draw.
