I think you missed my point. He knows the only place he's going to have job security as a head coach is in cornvalley. Didn't say he wouldn't make more money somewhere else for a short period of time, but he'd be fired anywhere else. As long as he's getting 8 wins in cornvalley, he has a job and a pay check.

What in the world has Franklin done to earn a shot at that helm? On the other hand...what had Kiffin done? I guess anything is possible. I am happy as long as they keep losing, no matter who the coach is.

Two positives for James Franklin are he already coaches at a private university (Vanderbilt) and has big-conference experience #USC

He's gotten people to actual talk about Vandy like they're a relevant team. I'm sure he'll jump at the opportunity if they give him the chance.

USC does not need people to talk about them. They need to beat teams with a pulse. JF doesn't have that on his resume at this time.

But with Franklin at USC, there wouldn't be Franklin threads and USC threads, there would only be Franklin at USC threads. Cuts the BS around here in half.

2 quotes. 2 bumps. 2 likes. USC would be making a huge mistake by taking, or even considering Franklin. Granted that coaches have egos, but to carry an abundance of arrogance with that ego is a bad combo. I hope that Frankie stays at the anchor long enough so UT has more than a few opps to thump that arrogant ego.

Now, on to those who will fit in Los Angeles, and where USC athletic director Pat Haden should reach out and gauge interest:

James Franklin, Vanderbilt

The positive: He has won at Vanderbilt and made the brand recognizable in a conference that has swallowed the program hole for the better part of a century. A charismatic guy who can recruit with anyone given the resources. Imagine what he could do in Los Angeles.

The negative: Hiring Franklin means hiring a coach who has four former players involved in a sexual assault case. One has pled guilty to a lesser charge and been sentenced; three others are awaiting trial. Is that his fault? Of course not. But those things stick to coaches and resonate with university presidents.

What has he won at Vanderbilt? He beat Tennessee during our worst year - ever. He walked into some solid players (juniors & seniors) whom are now gone except for Matthews which Frankie didn't recruit. The one player he did recruit away from UT is Kimbrow (you see how that is going). I don't really see an upside to Frankie's coaching ability where SC would even consider him.

Couple things about Franklin, first, he's not a West Coast guy, this can be important for recruiting California. Yes he was at WSU and Idaho St years ago, but I doubt he has much in the way of West Coast recruiting contacts. I don't believe Vandy has one Calif kid on the roster. Second, he really isn't much of a high profile coach with a 7-11 SEC conference record. That's not exactly "LA" impressive. USC will want a "name" coach, that's just who they are. Third, he doesn't have much experience as a head coach, I think this is his third year as HC.

I believe the one Cali kid he had on his roster is up against some serious rape charges.

Obviously, I never thought I'd see the Vandy coach on a list of USC candidates.
But, it does say something when Vandy's coach and not ours is showing up on lists like this.
