James Franklin (Penn St)

People who focus only his time at Vanderbilt are missing more recent data points. He's had substantial problems at PSU just recently and, like at Vandy, appears to have a lack of institutional control over disturbing behavior by team members. These have split the team open and led to formal investigations. These alone would eliminate him from consideration in my mind.

If's quite possible the Admin is being insincere when they say integrity and leadership are key to them. If they hire Franklin over decent people with a clean history - like Steele - you know it was just lip service.

Name his substantial problems at Penn State, the school that is in eternal shame and spent hundreds of millions of dollars over allowing a coach to behave criminally.

He’s definitely an amazing coach but personally I just don’t understand why we’re talking to anyone unless Hugh freeze unequivocally tells us no. And I don’t think he would do that if we sold out to get him
How many titles does this amazing coach have to his credit? He is amazing at trying to cover up the rape of a young women by 4 of his players.

PSU didn't know of the allegations at Vandy when they hired him? Rape allegations on top of what PSU had just dealt with doesn't seem like he would have been a bad hire.

Follow the link I posted above, or Google search yourself. It will lead you to a series of internal investigations, as well as court filings. Look at how the 2-year fiasco has split the team and led to multiple transfers. Regardless of what the PSU admin says about clearing him (they had just extended him, after all), the various testimony from multiple is disturbing and is NOT the culture any AD wants to risk repeating.

I believe you'll find your own link shows that it's one person who was mad at Franklin who told a story not supported by anyone else. If you really think that Penn State is going to risk losing 100+ million dollars and a likely NCAA death penalty to shield Franklin, I can get you a cheap deal on the Sunsphere.

Like I said, you can follow the trail to the internal investigation that shows disturbing testimony from multple team members. And here is a Forbes article showing yet another lawsuit filed AGAINST Franklin - this time by a team doctorregarding something totally different.

I don't have an axe to grind against Franklin - everything I learned was just in a quick read to learn about him when his name came up. Of all the coaches mentioned so far - besides maybe Briles - he seems to have the most consistent, disturbing problems. How many other coaches have lawsuits filed by legacy alumni and team doctors in their CURRENT job? This is a very good football coach who has consistent problems. You think Danny White is going to ignore that?

On his way to the locker room, was screaming profanities, directed toward the fans while firing double birds. Eye contact to the fans, pausing at the tunnel to unload a little extra. A total embarrassing melt down which has never been apologized for, not that one would be accepted.
Just wondering, do you think the fans were yelling profanities at him?

Still baffled at the strange moralists on here. I'm not sure what's worse, the ones blaming him for players off field crimes that he had nothing to do with. (Happened here under many coaches) or him cussing at opposing fans. That group apparently needs a fainting couch.
The fact that he tried to cover it up and then changed his testimony should unbaffle you

You are either ill-informed or ignorant. Franklin helped his players delete evidence of a gang rape. That’s not people being. “moralists.” It’s people having a basic sense of decency. If you like rape cover ups, Penn St is the perfect school for you to support.
James Franklin would easily turn this program around youe crazy. Nothing you spitting is facts.

No, Franklin did not and that was confirmed by the Nashville district attorney. Do you really think he'd be coaching and not charged for doing that?
You believe Nashville’s DA. He’s as bad as the people he is putting away. I know from some dealings I’ve had with him and him trying to get around state laws

Yes I believe the Nashville DA. The prosecution of James Franklin at the time would have launched their career to governor level. Franklin had already bolted for Penn State and most Tennesseans hated him. I also don't wear tinfoil hats, which apparently many people do now.

So we ask for a “Proven Head Coach” and James Franklin name pops up and folks dont want the hire? Make it make sense!! 3 11 win seasons in 5 years and made vandy respectable!!! If any other coach had that resume yall would be foaming at the mouth lol. Somethings got to be up

I suspect many were, but none that were near me, he was in a full blown meltdown, security was doing everything they could to hustle him out, for his own good. This was not Gaulden posing with dooble birds this was roid rage screaming like a girl, red faced, double birds with full blown profanity....that's the corner to the visitors tunnel in my profile pic so we got it full blast...and no I did not rebuttal but I came close to jumping the wall for his comments about the women in the stands, one of which was my wife.

I view Franklin like I view Calipari - unsavory. I'm also a UK grad and my interest in UK b-ball definitely fell off when Cal was hired. If it's Franklin and he's successful I'll be happy for the program of course but it won't have the same feel for me personally as it would with someone more likeable.

So what does have to do with the guy’s coaching ability?

In that situation he is in his professional capacity. Meaning he should not act in that manner. As a teacher I’ve had interactions with parents that were certainly not pleasant, and of course I wanted to say a lot of things. However, I could not do that because I am the professional in the situation and have to be held to a higher standard.

It wouldn’t matter to me, but, I’m not thin skinned and wear anatomical hats on my head either...
