James Franklin is a proven head coach and has shown when he was at vandy that he could recruit tennessee very well despite being at vandy. He still has good relations with a lot of high school coaches in tennessee and given his experience recruiting the midatlantic region over the years would do pretty well on the recruiting front in places tennessee has to do well to win. Hated him when he was at vandy but think he would do really well here. He didn’t do well in a covid year but has won at least 11 games in 3 of the past 5 seasons. He would be a home run hire.

moved mountains at Vandy. Many of his losses at Vandy to SEC were by 2 TDs or less. Yes, there were a few blowouts. But, the man lead Vandy to a lot of quality SEC wins with mainly 2-3 star players playing. Vandy went 5-3 and 4-4 his last two years of SEC PLAY playing in mainly hostile environments where home games aren't even home games 80% of the time. Yes, Franklin lead VU to 5-3 in only his second year with much less talent than other SEC teams!!! UT has only had two 5-3 seasons the last 13 years and hasn't went 6-2 in the SEC since 2007!!! Even the great Kiffin that so many of you want didn't go 5-3 his lone year at UT. Yes, the roster was sort of bare when Kiffin arrived. Do you think it was less talented than Franklin's in only his second year at Vandy???

You give Franklin a roster full of 4-5 star recruits playing in front of 75,000 to 95,000 of UT fans and watch UT kick some tail!!! Franklin also landed a lot of top recruits at Vandy his last two years. FRANKLIN is a PROVEN SEC COACH and PROVEN SEC RECRUITER with NO BAGGAGE and a 5 million buyout, possibly 4 million now that it is 2021!!!

Look at his team's RESULTS at Vandy with much less talent than his opponents! As I said, the guy moved mountains. Think about what he could do with 4-5 star roster in front of 75,000-90,000 HOME CROWD with PROVEN OC like Chaney and a PROVEN DC like Bob Shoop or some other TOP NOTCH PROVEN DC!!! It is definitely a recipe for success in the SEC!!!!!

If he only improved UT 5 spots over what UT is now and DEVELOPED and COACHED UP the players at UT like he did at VU and has at PSU, UT would probably be a JUGGERNAUT!!!

Damn, I had forgotten all that. My memory is fuzzy concerning that whole situation, and I have slept since then. But I am sure he was advising players that were not in that dorm room to not comment on it. But I do not remember it being reported he was telling them not to talk to police. And I am not going to criticize Vandy for that deal. We pretty much had our own scandal of that nature in that time frame.

Franklin is a good coach that is a snake oil salesman and a little shady. While at Vandy he used scheduling to his advantage and was a good enough coach that he knew he only had to win 2 or 3 SEC games and he would go to a Bowl granted he did that and more.

Home run hire by Tennessee. Franklin wants to come back to the south because his daughter has sickle cell disease and State College does not have the proper care she needs. Family has been having to go back and forth between PSU and “the south” because the top SC specialist are in Nashville and Atlanta. Got this info from someone who I don’t feel would lie to me and who has connections in the AD at UT....my source dunno 100% but it’s sounding like that’s the move. If so I’m super excited about this hire. TIFWIW

I hated Franklin when he was a Vandy. He’s a grade a d***. Plus penn state had an awful year in 2020. We could do better than him, but we could do a lot worse too.
