of course it's unfortunate that he wasted a once in a lifetime opportunity, but you dont feel the slightest twinge as you witness a young man wreck his life?

Well if you put it that way I'd have to be a very shallow person not to...:mf_surrender:

having watched banks play in indy, he was a great great talent. i thought he would put itall together this time as he had been working as a greeter at TGIFridays in indy over the last year and was very excited about going back to school. i echo all, what a shame, but so many of these kids are told they are the greatest, hit the college level and their rear ends arent as great and surely not being kissed as much as at hs. i loved banks and was a bif fan of morleys...maybe i'm f'd up!!!

I certainly feel bad for him. Sure, most of it is his fault, but obviously he has some problems. Just because it is his responsibility doesnt make it hurt any less for him...it probably makes it hurt more.

The guy obviously has a problem recognizing authority figures (not turning down his car radio, not leaving the gas station etc., etc. when told to) One of these days he's gonna be in the slammer and when "Bubba" tells him to sit down and shut up I recommend he do same.

Exactly, he got a free ride to play a GAME at a wonderful university...

Some kids don't have the chance to go to college and let alone recieve a full athletic scholarship for what mostly is God given ability....

I'm sure there was someone out there that year we could have given a scholly too that would have felt honored to play a sport and get a free education who was passed on because of James Banks...

Therefore, in no way do I feel sorry for him.....
Here,Here!! I'm with ya on this. It's really very simple.

a young man flushing his life away is never simple, it's tragic. Im sure that no one here ever squandered an opportunity or was guilty of a bad decision. Yes, his seem worse because they're on such a grand stage and he's had several chances, but the sad reality is that what he's doing to his life is punishment enough. Some of you need to discover what the word compassion means. God forbid you ever have a loved one in a similar situation.

Listen I understand it's very tragic. But this is an 20 year old kid we are talking about. And it not just one bad decsion, Banks repeatedly showed that he couldn't control himself and did not respect authority. What he is currently doing in his life is probably punishment but at the end of the day no one else is responsible for that but James Banks. It's just upsetting to see a kid born with so much potential and a gift to play football waste his opportunity when there are people out dying for a chance that never get it because they don't have the ability or whatever....

Those of you who played college sports like myself understand this...It's a privilage to get a FREE education especially these days...not many get this opportunity...

sure it's upsetting, but it's not your life, you're not the one that will be haunted for the rest of your days asking "what might have been". I just cant stand to hear the VolNation respond with such vehemence. Yes, he is guilty of all of it, but these are exactly the moments when kindness must prevail.

It's not vehemence believe me, I am not mad by any means at James Banks. I am just trying to state what kind of opportunity he squandered. It'd be different if he did it once, maybe twice but as you said Banks had many many chances and he screwed up everytime, I just don't have sympathy for that.

not saying condone or have sympathy for his circumstance, but have compassion for a young man that is in freefall. Dont pile it on, trust me, the road ahead for him will be brutal enough.

I have compassion for him, do you agree though it's hard to feel bad for someone who had as many opportunities in his life as he did? That's all I am saying.

sure it's difficult, Im not arguing that at all, just understand that I work in a Christian addiction treatment center, so I hear horror stories similar to his all day. Yes, his is different since it's so high profile, but the pain is the same. I suspect there are drug or alcohol issues at work here. My heart goes out to anyone that is lost in that wilderness.

That seems fair....:peace2:
