Given what I watched Thursday night along with the replay of the game and numerous highlights over the weekend, if our offensive line doesn't perform 20-30 times better then, Hurd may not survive to break the record.
Our O-line was completely and undeniably whipped play after play after play.. Either our line was very mediocre or or we will see the entire defensive line of Appy State go in the 1st round of the NFL draft.
Another thought! I thought our offensive play calling was about as vanilla as it could possibly be. Hopefully, that is not what we see the rest of the year.
Waltrip, it's in the context. Kristy and Mikey were talking about the Vols single-season record (1,464 by Travis Stephens) in a side-bar conversation (posts #11, #48, and #51).
Jalen got 110 in our first game.
That means he has to get another 1,354 the rest of the season.
If we go to the SEC CG, there are 13 games to go (11 reg season + SEC CG + Bowl Game). That's NOT assuming we'd get 2 bowl games by playing for the NC.
So another 1,354 yards in another 13 games = 104.2 yards per game. Call it 105.
Now, on the main topic of the thread, you're right, he only has 781 to go for the Vols career rushing record.
I would love to see him backed up about 3 more yards in the formation so he could get some speed up when he hits the line. He would be more of a beast.
Probably won't reach that number this weekend. He usually doesn't get as many carries against weaker G5 and FCS teams. I hope we see lots of Kamara and Kelly.
This guy should be making millions right now. He takes a beatin because the oline and terrible play calling. Running out of the shot gun, bad Oline, predictable play calling, no lead blocker/FB, it's a wonder he committed to Ut, but I'm glad he did. One of my favorite RBs ever.
12th of never, thank Providence! How'd you like to live with your all team leading rusher as a malcontent quitter?? Tickled he was dumb enough to leave when he did, good riddance IMO.
