Would love to see Hurd blast past 3100 total career rushing yards this year.

Only reason he won't kill the record will be Kamara.

Which is a good thing.

If Jalen were the only serviceable back.. He would destroy the record. He'll still beat it though.

Hurd will be moving up the all-time list almost weekly on his way to the top position this year. I'm going to enjoy watching him every game because he is obviously NFL bound after this season.

That's Jalen standing next to DeMarco Murray, BTW.

He needs to average 75 yards per game during the regular season. The question should be, during which game will Hurd break the rushing record?. I'm going to go with South Carolina. If not, the attendance may increase for the Tennessee Tech game to see the record broken.

I think he finishes his junior year with somewhere around 3,500 career yards and leaves UT having done exactly what set out to do when he committed to the Vols....be a major part of bringing the program back to championship caliber again.

USCe game is a pretty smart pick, Kristy.

To break the record that day, Jalen needs to average at least 112 ypg, but not more than 127.

In 2015, he averaged 99 ypg. He'll do better this year, with a more seasoned offensive line and some impressive speed work in the off-season. How much better, that's the question. You think at least 13 ypg better. Could absolutely be.

If he's a LOT better (more than 127 ypg average), he could break it in the Bama game. That would be awesome. But it's a lot to ask, with our five toughest games front-loaded in that part of the schedule.

If he improves over 2015, but not quite as much as you anticipate, he would break the record in the Tennessee Tech game. Kind of a 'meh' place to do it.

So I'm hoping that, at worst, you're right: USCe game. At worst.

Go Jalen, go Vols!

p.s. Every time our career rushing record comes up, it reminds me just how freakish McCaffrey's year was at Stanford last fall. Over 3,800 all-purpose yards in a single season. That is insane.

Hurd is my favorite Vol RB in the last 15 years or so.......he brings a toughness that the Vols just haven't had recently......everyone knows you must be able to run the ball in the SEC to win championships......Go Jalen
Go Vols

. . .

I'm sure you know, but Hurd's lower total games last year were against the weaker opponents - fewer rushes combined with him really stepping up his game when needed. Having a tough front-loaded schedule could actually help his cause. It would be sweet for it to happen against Bama, especially during a win. And with all improvements (like you said), it could definitely happen sooner than SC.

Hurd is an absolute BEAST and will break the record easily. Who is the dude levitating in the back? We need that guy too! Would be hard to tackle that guy.

My mind is so confused. What is that guy standing on in the back?

He could absolutely shatter the record if he stayed his SR year too. 4,000+yds.

If he stays 4 years, which I don't think he will at all, he'll have a decent shot at 5,000 yards IMHO. Figure 27-28 more games, if he were to stay, which isn't likely, 102-103 yards per game gets him there.

If we lose to Bama or UF I can see him coming back next year. Kid has always been a UT fan and I'm sure he's heard the talk about how Peyton never beat UF. Don't want to have that hanging on your college legacy
