If you are referring to Hurd... he was a very good RB. That's 100% on Jones. As truly screwed up as Jones and his system were... Hurd is 7th on UT's all time rushing list.

I agree to a point. Hurd still quit on the team. And even though he's had injuries, he still has head issues. I hope he gets healthy and gets a chance. but not looking good.
49ers training camp: Could X-factor Jalen Hurd be on the outs?
"Shanahan did not elaborate on what bothered Hurd on Tuesday morning and said the receiver could tell the media himself. However, Hurd has not spoken to reporters in nearly two years and wasn’t made available at Tuesday’s post-practice session. "

Kamara was not used well all by Jones. Hurd should have played more fullback and Tight end and Kamara should have been the feature back. There were games Kamara didn't get but 6-8 carries, Kamara could have carried 18-20 times a game and had 5-6 catches out of the backfield. It was very obvious after Kamara's first year in the pro's that Jones didn't know what he had in Kamara and didn't get close to getting the most of out him. Dobbs saved butch, because Jones and his staff didn't know squat about qb's either. GBO!!!!!We can't take anything away from what Hurd accomplished with the coach he had.. What's always amazed me was the fact that Kamara came off the bench the majority of his career. When you add that fact to the fact that there were at least rumors of Hurd asking to be moved to WR or TE. What a brilliant coach we had on the hill.
This. Hurd was a beast and could have potentially left here as all time leading rusher. Say what you want about him, but he did what was BEST for HIM. He owes us (fans) NOTHING. Clearly he was in a toxic situationIf you are referring to Hurd... he was a very good RB. That's 100% on Jones. As truly screwed up as Jones and his system were... He needed a coach... and didn't need to be treated like a prima donna. Jones created that situation. He was supposed to be the leader. That should have never happened because he should have had more discipline and respect for his coach and team than that. Hurd didn't come to UT with that attitude. It was cultivated by a coach who wanted to be "cool" and "down wit'" the boys.Taunting the UGa player a few yards from the goal line, getting popped and fumbling will always stick in my head. Jones was right to chew him out and bench him that game. He could have grown and learned from that but he didn't. That was the beginning of the end of his career at UT.
Hurd was a very violent runner, when he was running with motivation. That kid was well on his way to being a Vol legend. Unfortunately Butch happened. If you are referring to Hurd... he was a very good RB. That's 100% on Jones. As truly screwed up as Jones and his system were... Yep. Because Jones thought he was going to reinvent football in the SEC by trotting out undersized OL's who were no quicker than the huge DL's they opposed... Hurd ended up being his own blocker much of the time.Hurd was a very violent runner, when he was running with motivation. That kid was well on his way to being a Vol legend. Man I think what those Dobbs led squads could’ve accomplished with proper coaching and motivation.
GBO!!
This thread is about Beckwith. Quit being stuck in the past. If you want to discuss the merits, or lack thereof, of Hurd, start a new thread and quit hijacking this one.Hurd was a very violent runner, when he was running with motivation. Do you remember the Vanderbilt game before the Iowa bowl game.. At the end of the game Hurd was venting to Jones. From my understanding it was related to constantly getting hit in the backfield because of the scheme the offense ran.. In the bowl game.. Hurd had a lead blocker, Debord tweaked the offense apparently.. The next year Jones went back to same scheme... Hurd asked to be moved to a different position, WR I believe, Jones didn't do it... I may be a bad historian on this in my age. Anyway.. This Dee guy...Yep. Pretty close. The way I remember "hearing" it at the time is that Jones actually promised Hurd that he would install an I formation package if JH would return to UT. He lied to Hurd and that accelerated the downward spiral between the two. This started very early on and got worse as time progressed. Jones wasn't trustworthy and tried to do things to placate Hurd and keep him from leaving.Do you remember the Vanderbilt game before the Iowa bowl game.. If Hurd was a good RB he would’ve been one after he transferred out.
BS. Hurd was the best every down running back. Watch his sophomore season. He was top shelf at end of season against a Big Ten team with a supposedly good defense, ranked 12 as to our 23rd slot. What would a competent coach have done with a backfield that included Dobbs, Kamara, Hurd, and Kelly?
