Jalen Hurd ranked #10 RB in the country

we all know that Hurd is a great running back,I haven't seen to much of the other running backs to have a good opinion of weather there better than Hurd or not, after all,I only watch the Mighty Vols of Tennessee on Saturdays :)

There are 4 that I would definitely put ahead of Hurd. Of the rest, I honestly don't know enough about them to determine a ranking. Having the lowest total yards (except for Chubb who almost doubled him in YPC) and lowest YPC didn't help his case against the rest of the field in these rankings.

I will clarify, though, that while I'd put Chubb ahead of Hurd on the list, I'd rather have Hurd all offseason and playing in 2016 instead of Chubb because of the injury.

I see Hurd can possibly make an argument for 5-6 realistically based on past and potential compared to others.

I have to disagree with a few posters that think he won't be good in the NFL. I actually think the opposite. He runs with heart. He is very physical and he is strong. He is explosive out the gate. I think he will be a great RB1 for any team. Worst case scenario would be goal line if he put on more muscle. I'm excited to see him progress from college to NFL. I think he will be a great ambassador for Tennessee.

I would have to put Hurd at 5 or 6 on that list.

Our O line was much better last season but not great at getting to the 2nd level to spring Hurd for the long yardage plays.

Then you must consider that AK and Dobbs both get lots of runs that takes away from Hurd padding his stats.

Then you must also consider that the O line in his Freshman year really held him back from lots more yards.

Then you also must consider that he's a excellent pass blocker and he's excellent at catching the ball out of the backfield so he's a really good all around RB.

All those things taken into consideration should have Hurd ranked a bit higher as to his real potential.

As to his NFL potential...He might actually be smarter to stay and play his Senior year for a few reasons.

1...Let Chubb, Fornette and the others fight it out in next years NFL draft while he pads his stats and resume' to make him look much better.

2...With many on that top 10 list already in the NFL and Hurd having a much better resume', possible awards and maybe SEC and National Championship rings he becomes a much higher draft pick and earns LOTS more $$$ on his 1st NFL contract.

3...He'll have his degree just in case a bad injury happens but also lots of NFL Coaches and GM's have a high regard for young men that are Loyal and have serious goals and stick to them even if it keeps them out of the NFL for 1 extra year.

Playing his Senior year just might be the smartest move but I sure couldn't blame him if he left early for the NFL money.

I hope he and all of Team 120 goes all the way because if they leave early and Team 121 Wins it all they may forever regret not being a part of a Tennessee National Championship team.

Possibility that K Drake gets drafted before D Henry according to NFL Insiders. More upside than Henry and much better hands.

Obvious potential to be Top 5. Preseason rankings are just a starting point and opinionated. Not sure how he will translate to the NFL but is a beast in CFB and not done yet!!

Hurd would be listed higher if he had been running behind more experienced lines like those other back had.

Good news is Tennessee's line has gotten more efficient each year since Butch got here. If they made significant progress this year? Hurd is in the top three, even with sharing carries with Kamara.

That is to start the year, he will be Top 5 in January.

We could go back to back NC, if he stays to win the Heisman his senior year. Probably will either way.

I would put the odds about 20 to 1.

That would be a great trifecta, box it with JD winning the Heisman this year.

Go Vols!

I'll take 1000 American against that trifecta.

Considering the poor play of the O line his freshman year and slow start this year, I think his numbers are deceiving.

Jalen had a slightly better yards per carry average his freshman year than his sophomore year....3 of his 6 100-yard games came in the first four games of the season this year. His numbers are what they are IMO. Let's hope that a further improved OL, a better Jalen and a lot of carries from the offset I add up to a big junior year for Hurd....I believe that's what is about to happen.

The limited plays from that formation in the bowl game were impressive. Wish I knew if that would translate to the 2016 season with the same degree of success or if it was just a small sampling size against a Big 10 team?

My guess is that was a test of a new formation that DeBord talked buTch into trying in the oUTback bowl.

It obviously worked very well so I believe we'll see more of that next season as our O continues to evolve under DeBord.

Adding that new formation and style can help in several ways.

1...It will be a new look to help try to confuse the D.

2...It should help with the play action game.

3...It gets Hurd and AK running downhill faster and hitting the D players harder to break more arm tackles and get more YAC.

4...It can help with recruiting by showing we aren't always a spread type O and that sometimes our QB will be working under center which we all know the NFL really likes and QB recruits will like that as well.

Year 1 with DeBord as our OC showed us some really good improvements and proved that buTch made a good hire.

Year 2 with DeBord should show us more of how he and buTch plan to evolve our O even more to make us more dangerous and hard to defend against.

Better O and much tougher D = Championships.
