I've been thoroughly impressed with how well spoken and articulate this class is. Seems to me this is one of the things that sets this class apart.

Shows what kind of athlete Butch is attracted too and vice versa. Jmo

Yeah, 4 *'s and 5 *'s! Lovin' it.

I like this one. Jaleln Thundering-Hurd.
I may have to make a T-Shirt design in Big Bold letters HURD is the WURD!!!And have have an image of him running through a gap in the OL, in the foreground. Will be a lot of work, but maybe HoundDogs or the UT-Store will be interested in carrying them.

*Sorry if there's already a thread for this. Mods please move if so.*

Just wanted to say I'm listening to Jalen on the Ainge show right now, and I couldn't be more impressed with how mature and intelligent he sounds. You don't hear any of the canned phrases (i.e. "most definitely", "make plays"). He's actually saying things of substance, unlike many kids his age. He "most definitely" :) seems like the type of young man that will be an excellent ambassador of all things UT.

edit: They just finished up the interview as I posted this.

TKjr sounds that way as well when I've heard him speak as does Wharton. We definitely have gems in this class, kids who are bright already prepared to be leaders. The fact that they're local kids makes it another point of pride.

Whiteish Lightning.

That would technically be "Bright Lightning." And while it's got a good rhyming ring to it I don't think it should be used, especially if Jalen himself doesn't come up with it and give it the ok.

Bright's a term used to describe fair skinned black people (Vanessa Williams is bright). The term bright for light skin was probably older than it's use in the Americas and might've been applied to white folks at one time but here in the US it's applied to black folks with light skin for ages.

BUT I'd be very loathe to use this as a nickname
since there's a lot of debate nowadays in the black community over colorism (favoritism of lighter skin within the community, especially when it comes to light skinned women). And the word bright is now one of those things now marketed in beauty products "get brighter skin tones." Right now, it hasn't yet hit the no-no list but it could and the results would NOT be pretty.

TBH, I think skin-tone based nicknames need to go. All they do is reinforce stereotypes no matter who they're applied to or how catchy they might be.

Travis Henry could barely talk. Casey Clausen had verbal diarreah. Who cares?? UT doesn't need ambassadors. They need relentless football players. Not saying Hurd isn't one, but I could really care less if he is well spoken.

I care. There is nothing worse than watching a player represent his school in an interview and sound like Flava Flav.

Btw, nickname is "The Hurd"

you guys should have HURD the Lendale White interview the other morning, Lord have mercy on us all. Eric asked Lendale what he thought of Lane Kiffin. Lendale just said he was a good coach, and, really appreciated what he did for him as a player. Eric kept babbling on and on and on. I do love the show but this was difficult to listen to.

I am so glad it's not just me. Ainge is the worst interviewer on sports radio and JayBay egging him on makes it worse. He spends the entire time making asinine jokes that no one laughs at but his side kick. We want to know about recruiting from Hurd and the future of UT football. How's his recovery going, etc. Not Ainge, he asks Hurd what super hero he would be. Really?

Agreed. Ainge's show sounds like it is being run by 2 college frat guys in the basement making lame potty humor type jokes. I know Ainge knows his stuff when he makes an attempt at actually being somewhat professional, but he turns his program into too much of a clown show for my liking.

IMO the best of Ainge is the stuff posted on the TSR website. I love when he does playbook/Xs & Os breakdowns.
