to be completely unfair, and waay to early to speculate...here goes.

after seein' jamal lewis interview got me ta thinkin. despite the fact jamal would run somebody over and was freakishly big, is it possible theres a comparison here? i mean jmal was fast as crap and could break through a pile. also when he sprinted ran upright.

the obvious comparison is to dickerson tho.

Hey I will take the bate. Hurd would prolly Red-Shirt at 3 other schools in the SEC. Kid needs to put on major weight and it HAS to be great weight, has to gain a step, also needs to develop an attitude of finishing plays in the middle of the field.
Tennessee had a stable of 1-2nd round backs on the bench between 96-00, competition makes 5* players perform.
Competition between 2* and 4* Backs leads to less than favorable outcomes.

Jalen goes about 220. That's plenty big enough but he could easily add ten pounds of muscle before he ever steps on the field for us.

Add weight? Did he not recently weigh in at 228 lbs?

Exactly, Hurd is up to 230 lbs now and his speed is ridiculous. And finishing plays? No one and I mean no one should take his junior highlights that seriously. They look great, but if you really want to nit pick, go back and watch them and remember that he played through most of them with a torn shoulder (labrum) that he had surgery on a week after the state championships.

On ESPN, they have him listed at 240lbs. Doesn't look like he needs to add more weight to me.

To put yet another figure on the proverbial table, I recall reading that Jalen played at ca. 210 last year but is up to 231-232 lbs. now, which would be virtually identical to the greatest running back I've ever seen, Jim Brown, who checked in at 6-2, 232 lbs.

This is a rediculous thread. Apparently the majority of the people posting have never seen him play (with the exception of Vol74). I've said this in other threads but I will say it again. He is the best high school running back I have ever seen in the state of TN and that was as a junior. If you want to make comparisons then the backs that he reminds me of most are Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson. Those questioning his speed have no clue. The kid has a second and third gear. And at a legit 6'3" he has feet like a 5'8" scat back. He shows incredible patience and vision and even at 210lbs he ran with deceptive power. He broke more tackles last year at the LOS than any other high school back I've seen in person. Now he is 230lbs. Other than the great Jim Brown, the only other backs I've seen with this type of size/speed combination were Bo Jackson and Tyrone Wheatley. I'm not saying he ends up being any of these guys because you just never know, but he is the closest I've seen to a sure thing at running back since Adrian Peterson. TIFWIW.

Jalen Hurd is Jalen Hurd. When he steps on the field as a Vol, he will be ready. The staff will have him ready weight wise and every other way. He has all the tools to be a super back and seems to have a super attitude to go with the physical ability.

Jamal Lewis had a similar size/speed combination.

He has stated that he weighs 232. I think that is a good weight for him. However, a number of running backs weigh 240 to 265. I think the S&C coach will get him where he needs to be.
