Where to begin?
Nico was fired for two reasons; not being worth the money he was getting AND abandoning his post while his camp tries to usurp the coaching role. Either of those should get you fired.

Paying him more was never an option unless you want papa Nico running the place, because Heupel would be finished as a leader.

It's mild insanity to think Heupel doesn't survive 2025, buyout is a non-issue.

I don’t have a problem with the Nico situation, I think the collective, the administration and the coaching staff handled that exactly how it should’ve been handled.
Nico needed to prove more before demanding more money and leaving his team hanging was beyond ridiculous.
Heupel’s job is not in jeopardy after this year and probably next year and that is certainty(outside of a major scandal)
The simple fact that we fans are debating this is possibly one of the main contributing factors in the program being a 💩 show over the past 2 decades, and having to settle for the clowns that we hired to “run” the circus.

Don’t disagree with anything you said about the Nico situation. With that said, if this season goes south and Nico lights it up at UCLA, there will be plenty of people on this site that jump off the Heupel train.
