Jakobe Thomas has been impressive

He entered the portal only after Miami lost a 7 figure binding war for S AJ Haulcy.

Yes, it was about the money. (Not blaming JaKobe since we failed to realize the market/overestimated what was in the building here)...

The announcers and talking heads all mentioned that Miami doesn’t substitute as much on defense as other teams do…wonder if that factors in to the minds of some of these kids…I know we should have played Thomas more but the slow walk on kid was pretty good too

At the end of the day, players want to play because they like to compete. I honestly think that substitution is good for their long term health, but I think there is a mindset that needs to be corrected.

I don't think this kid was a bag grabber. Dude just wanted to play somewhere.
Wanted to start and be put in positions to make plays. Banks couldn’t make either happen. Nil $ was gravy for him. We were his dream school and he was miserable playing part time for Banks in our scheme.

No, it wasn’t. Kid almost quit football playing for Banks.

If that was the case, he would have opted out of OSU game or left in December portal, or January portal or the beginning of the April portal.

He only left late in the April portsl after Miami missed on Haulcy and his agent could get him $$$$....

He has discussed all of this in an hour long interview in November. He left after spring practice because it was more of the same **** from Banks and he was splitting time with Farooq and Turrentine.
New miami safety coach, who arrived at Miami in spring, had also coached more AA’s in 3 seasons at Washington than Banks has in his career.

banks never played our best players
I pulled this from an article I just read where Thomas talked about his decision to leave. He said he loved TN and struggled with the decision …. Then the writer added this to close out the story:
Thomas didn’t go into great detail about the catalyst for his decision to leave Tennessee. But it’s worth noting that he played nearly 300 fewer snaps than former walk-on Vols safety Will Brooks in 2024. Thomas also played almost 300 fewer snaps than Andre Turrentine, and he played just 23 more snaps than Christian Charles (Charles transferred to Virginia after the 2024

That is coaching malfeasance.

He an earned a little more money but that wasn’t the reason for leaving. It certainly wasn’t an amount UT was incapable of matching. He just won MVP in a playoff game and UT couldnt even provide him any assurance of his playing role going into his final year. Banks was an idiot and didn’t know what he had and thats a big reason he’s fired. How the hell Miami even had them on their radar is a bigger question. These other teams are obviously doing more in the way of evaluation.

Thomas, Harrison and Charles would have all helped this team. Just like Sattewhite, Anderson, Warren, Ross, and Gibson would have helped this coming year.
Definitely would have liked to have kept Ross and Gibson, although I don't know that I ever heard the final word on Gibson's injury status. This is just the new landscape. Gonna lose guys we don't necessarily want to lose and others will be encouraged to move on. Some of those we will see as a mistake.
