I am starting to wonder if he will ever see any real playing time. I was so pumped when he signed

Didn't Tommy Thigpen call him the best linebacker prospect in the country? Interesting that it only took a few starts for the coaching staff to completely switch his position.

Fixed your post. Really though, he plays hard, and you never hear a bad word about him. Just the kind of guy you want on your team.

Ellis was a HS QB who walked on and improved via the S&C program...doubt he was rated at all.

Jakob Johnson looks like an almost ideal fit in the TE/H-back position that was utilized in the bowl game. I look for him to play a lot of snaps in that role this season which is really exciting.

JJ is not afraid of contact which could really suit him for the TE/H back type role in our run game if and when a play calls for a guy to just go out and blow somebody up. I don't think he's played the game long enough to grasp a lot of the sophisticated stuff at this point, but if you "Mongo him" like "Mongo this play you blow up the OLB or # XX no matter where he is" type of thing, I think he could execute that very well.

Ellis was very underrated he was a solid all around tight end h back

I didn't disparage him, but I wouldn't have considered him "underrated". Got the most out of his skillset and represented. I think Jakob is more physically talented.

I thought I read somewhere we were going to deploy a FullBack some this season and Johnson was gonna be used some there?

They used the H- Back in that role for the bowl game.

And that was Stocstil some, if I remember correctly. I think Johnson will take the same role as Stocstil.

Johnson is also a very good special teams player.

Alex Ellis for that game actually. Remember Stockstill being used as a blocker in some situations during his time here. I think DeBord likes the matchups the H-Back gives him.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and thanks for reminding me it was TE they moved him too, I could not remember if it was DE or TE. I do agree at minimum he should be a great special teams guy and if he can catch the ball (now or eventually), he can be a good TE.

He could end up being one of those fluke guys who never starts but ends up playing in the NFL.

As long as he keeps being a stud on special teams, I'm fine with that.

At least AS GOOD as Ellis. Most likely a better blocker and threat after he receives the ball.

You obviously weren't paying attention last year. Alex Ellis was the best blocker on the team. Will be interesting to see how the Wolf brothers do replacing Ellis' blocking in the run game.

We OBVIOUSLY have slightly different viewpoints. Ellis was a game former walkon who earned his scholarship...but wasn't the BEST anything. Watched all the games too and still disagree with you. :)

Eli Wolf apparently still needs to get bigger and stronger, he does have good hands and runs well, etc.

It would be nice if possible to redshirt both our freshmen TEs this year.

Which certainly makes me feel better about my opinion!!:dance2:

If it helps. :). Doesn't make it reality. When Helm transferred, I cited it was because Ellis outplayed him...if you're still on the narrative that I disrespected him in some way.

Everyone here knows that Hurd will be switched to TE either the middle of this year or for his senior season.

This is going to shake up the entire line-up.

whoops, forgot.

Not real big on worrying about disrespecting. Just took your earlier statement as confirmation of an earlier thought that you really don't understand much about the game of football. No disrespect meant .:hi:
