He looked pretty freakin impressive in Cal's win over The U. Blazing speed, good hands, and he didnt shy away from contact. IMO, that is the level/skill player that UT hasnt been able to get the last ~10 years. Hopefully, that is about to change.

On another note, Miami is absolutely filled with Frosh/Sophomore starters. They are going to be a force to be reckoned with again in a year or two if they can even halfway develop that talent.

His speed is truly elite. Nobody, us or otherwise, are going to have much access to that kind of fast. He's just a breath behind the Demps/Holiday's of the world.

It's fun to think of Oku being something like that even if a couple steps slower. (a couple steps slower than Best is still plenty fast)

Reminds me of Onterio Smith.

I honestly had never saw him play, I had just heard about him being incredibly fast. What stood out (or surprised me) the most, was the toughness he ran with. He seems like an even faster version of Reggie Bush who doesnt duck out of bounds at every chance, or bounce things to the outside that have no business going there. I bet he excels in the NFL as a change of pace, or maybe even featured like Chris Johnson with the Titans.

I wonder how USC didnt snatch him up as well?

I think a situation like that Johnson has with the Titans is exactly where a guy like Best would like to find himself.

Having only played in high school....I can only imagine how tough it is for a defense to get used to trying to tackle a guy like Lendale White, Brandon Jacobs or Beanie Wells.....then have a guy like Best come in after you just got ran over or slobber-knocked, and blaze right past you. Hopefully, Oku can be our guy with a little of both.

Jahvid Best is legit, but Cal sucks. I wish they would have lost. Now I have to put up with 9 months of Cal fans bragging about beating a mediocre-at-best Miami team. Cal fans have got to be some of the most delusional fans in the country, claiming that their program is one of the best teams in the country. Seriously. I have to deal with several Cal fans at work on a daily basis...

Like I said in another thread, we did have one like that name LaMarcus Coker, unfortunately the problem was the idiot couldnt stay away from marijuana long enough to play football

Best is a true burner, very fun to watch.

Berry is our best homerun threat, but he plays defense. Once he gets the ball and turns on the jets very few players could ever run him down.

Coker had the speed, but he was nowhere near as good as Jahvid when it comes to vision and running between the tackles. Coker was a very upright runner

Speed is a wonderful asset but gets too much cred over other things, particularly at RB. How many people here would, given them at their best, choose Coker over Emmit Smith or even Travis Henry. Being able to get yards consistently FAR outweighs any "threat" that someone "might" go long on one from time to time.

Back to Best he looks so good because he's more than just a threat to bust one as he appears to run hard too.

Our balanced backs are no where near as good as these guys. Bottom line we need a threat back there.

???

My point was that I'd take either of those guys over a dozen Cokers.

Smith or Henry weren't "threats"? To do what, get you down the field and score or house one from 80yds? They weren't much of a threat for the latter but darn sure were for the former.

I am not nor have I ever bashed the idea that "more speed is better" all else being equal. There are some however that seem to get a little too enamored with that ONE aspect, particularly in a RB. If someone's justification to argue one player should be playing over another and the one argument they keep going back to is "so and so is faster" then they may have issues.

Speed guys love to cite Coker but he did very little against quality opponents when here and has pretty pedestrian numbers at Hampton.

Best had about 3-4 pays against UT last year in Cal and helped to set up one of their early touchdowns. He was a freshman playing significant minutes and making contributions in the first game of the year.

You must have not watched out game against Cal last year. He absolutely torched us a few times.

Reason that I don't like Jahvid Best - It's always the b-otches on NCAA 09 online that use Cal. Jahvid Best is nearly damn impossible to stop.

No, but really, I like the way he plays.

I feel he would have improved on that with time though. I mean this was jahvids sophmore year and he looked like he ran a lot better overall compared to last year. That's one of those things they get better with time too

It's not really fair to compare a college kid to established pros. A better question would be, for example, who would you rather have, a healthy Bo Jackson or a healthy Emmit Smith?

I'd like to see Jahvid Best and Noel Devine in a foot race

I would have my money on Best all the way.

I looked him up on Rivals....Kid was a 4*, and ran for over 3300 yards and 49 TD's, in his Senior year alone!

When he comes into the League after next year, I sure hope my 49ers can get him to go along with Frank Gore!

carroll wanted best pretty badly. he wanted to stay near home though and cal has a pretty good track record of developing rbs.

they give him decent spead, but his overrall rating is really lousy. i imagine that will change in next years addition.
