Hey guys, I have an interview in Jackson on Thursday. I haven't been there before and thought I'd get a variety of impressions of town before I go and see for myself. Thanks. :hi:

I'm from over that way. Jackson has grown incredibly in the last 10-15 years.

Amazing the response this thread has gotten.

My parents are from Waverly, but that's about as far into west TN that I've gotten in recent history.

Dated a judge's daughter from Waverly while at UT. :p

Only thing I knew about Jackson was many of my friends in college came from there and never said they missed it much. Couple of them used to stay on campus over xmas break.

That doesn't help much I'm sure.:)

MY family is from Huntingdon, Milan, Atwood etc. Several of them work in Jackson.

Personally, I've always liked Jackson, but as I';m sure you know, Knoxville it ain't . . . and it's an 1 1/2 hours in either direction to a major city.

Not a huge problem. I went to high school in freakin' McMinnville so a town the size of Jackson shouldn't even come close to bothering me... :good!:

As much as I like the college atmosphere here in Knoxville, I hate it in the summer when everyone is gone.

Pretty much it's malls, strip shopping centers, chain restaurants and Double A baseball.

Any good local sports bars or Italian restaurants (outside of the chains you mentioned) or clubs?

Are there any young people there or is it mostly a retirement home? Have the people from up north taken over down there yet and jacked up the price of land like their doing in East Tennessee or is it pretty reasonable?

Just curious... :)

Waverly is right up the road from where I live. Jackson is about an hour or so away.

I really would have no clue about that. My trips to Jackson usually consist of going there to eat when I'm visiting family. We ate at a Rafferty's when I was up there a couple of weeks ago. The people in the bar appeared to be having a good time . . . but my Grandmother wouldn't have understood.

My daughter goes to college in Henderson. About 15 minutes from Jackson. There is still some reasonable property there but it is heading up and fast. Jackson is much bigger now than 10 years ago. But outside Jackson is still some good deals on property.

The Speghetti Store is excellent. There is another Italian place but I can't remember the name right now.
I don't do sports bars or clubs so I wouldn't know about that.

I grew up about 20 miles south of Jackson, in Henderson. My brother lives in Jackson now. It has grown a lot since I left the area. It was the "big town" we all went to if we wanted to eat at a restaurant and see a movie. It is a decent place to live I suppose, just don't expect the night life of a bigger city.

Al Wilson is from Jackson. :)

Where you interviewing?

I have been there a ton of times. We use to meet my neice form Freed Hardeman (about 20 minutes away) for lunch. It is a pretty nice place, probably more country than not, and I think it has it's good places to live and not so good, like any decent size city.Engineering major? My cousins boy graduated from UT engineering and they wanted him to come back in graduate program and work on hydro car I think it was.So he got his masters from their a few years ago.Smart kid.He loved it.

Brady-Horne is the company.

They are a mechanical subcontractor. They design and/or install mechanical systems (HVAC mostly) for commercial applications. It looks like a very interesting job.

Duck and deer hunting, fishing and a whole lot of beer drinking is what everybody I know from Jackson does in their spare time

most of the guys I knew also enjoyed the smoke as well.

Your experience was also exclusively with college students... at UT... a large percentage of that population does, that doesn't mean it is necessarily a reflection of where they are from.

Good luck, man. Jackson wouldn't be a bad place to live. One thing I forgot to mention earlier, Jackson is where I got my tats. Let me know if you want to get some ink, I can recommend a good place. :p
