Jack Jones Had Surgery Today

Ok well lets take a look at the least improved position since Jones and Mahoney have been here. Wheres Austin Sanders, how about Drew Richmond, Mosley? Brett Kendrick couldn't beat Richmond out in camp, now hes starting? Id say the biggest strength would be Jones and Hall but they look slower than they did last year. So what is it, development? Mahoney needs to be let go at seasons end.

It's simply 3 things - 1) the state of the roster when Butch arrived, 2) recruiting OL numbers since 2013 and 3) evaluating OL talent.

We've missed on a few (Sanders, Blair, Raulerson), but mostly it's been a numbers problem. Should've signed 5 or 6 OL in 2013 to make up for 2012, but tough to do in 2-1/2 months.

What Dooley did in 2012 would qualify as recruiting malpractice. Unthinkable.

2012 recruiting class had zero OL.

2013 recruiting class had 3 OL.

Weisman (originally committed to Cincy)
Sanders
Kendrick

2014 recruiting class had 4 OL

Thomas
Raulerson *transferred
Blair *left team
Mosley

2015 OL

Richmond
Jones
Stewart *never enrolled
Hall
Boulware

2016 OL

Niehaus
Tatum
Johnson

Minimum 4 oline men each year, gotta build depth, we need monsters like JJ and Hall, Tatum will add 20+ pounds by next season maintaining his speed and footwork , next years staring oline will be savage just not sure about backups on rotation

Good post. Ideally we would have had two red shirt senior olinemen this year, but Dooley signed 0 in his last year. Dooley set us back 4 years. Developing oline depth has been CBJ greatest struggle.

So either Jones and company can't evaluate SEC talent or they just aren't able to develop players efficiently. Ive never seen so many unproductive recruits.

Uh I think you're looking at Dooley and Company recruits (Sanders); in which case I would agree with your supposition. Otherwise I think you need to go back and reevaluate your argument.

That's your only two options? Haha. How about the one where "we offered all 14 of those studs, but most of them went elsewhere". Ever think @ that possibility?

Not seeing anything "savage" about our OL....or frankly, our team.

Okay . . . I couldn't help myself from posting, but "something is rotten in the state of Denmark."

I can't recall any other program going through so many linemen. Some injuries here and there . . . sure, it is football afterall. But, the sheer number of injuries to this unit no matter who's on it over the last few years is simply staggering.

Here's to Mr. J. Jones. Wishing you a speedy recovery, young man.

Edit: I understand the recruiting situation. I've posted about it in other threads. I'm just blown away by the attrition.

Shouldn't our starting LG for the last 3 years make this list somewhere?

And like Blair, Sanders was a 4* recruit that lots of big programs offered. Not every recruit pans out which is why you need 85 scholarships instead of 60. I'd guess CBJ's track record of recruits that don't pan out isn't any higher than the SEC average.

So Austin Sanders has been here 4 years... shouldn't he be ready to play by now if Jack can't go in two weeks?

You can't assume that a lineman prospect will pan out. O-line is the position with the most variance in recruiting ratings to college performance because it's hard to predict how a player will respond to strength training and weight gain, plus the defenders get a lot bigger.

There's a lot of time before signing day, and the top recruits tend to play a waiting game, but we have a total of one offensive linemen committed for next year - a three star tackle.

Rivals had Robertson @ DT - my mistake.

True. And don't forget Dan skipper. Butch didnt consider Pittman (I spoke with him personally as he was a client).
I'd like to know more about Brown. it's not like they signed him and he didn't qualify. they just stopped recruiting and pulled the offer.

Still, Jones has not signed the numbers and quality of Olinmean he needs to for SEC grind.

12 and 13 are the reasons for the problems now. Raulerson? why the hell would you go to Florida for that?

SEC math class was the issue with Brown IIRC
