Jack Jones career over

I will remember him as being a firey player and I will also remember him for having two conseq. off sides penalties when we were in field goal range in the Florida game. Those two off sides penalties took us out of field goal range. Those three points, in theory, cost us a game.......

I thought for sure he would graduate and be in the NFL for several seasons.... ya, never know what can happen from day to day.

I also thought that O'Brien was NFL bound but his career ended after the A & M game.

What an ass. What an absolute ass.

I too have been puzzled by his play at times this year. Lots of people have questioned it, because his play previously was at a much higher level. That was before the fact. Before it we knew what was up...

Did ya think maybe, just maybe his nerve pain and numbness could have a little something to do with that???

He's suffered through an injury in which he was reluctant to disclose the severity. Maybe he underestimated how hard it would be to stay still pre-snap with numb arms and shooting pain.

Cause hes a damn warrior.

But you, and your classless, cowardly comment bringing up his very worst moment as a vol was timed even more unfortunate than those "off-sides" you ignorantly refer to.

Because see, they were some of his very last moments wearing orange, and giving his all to tennessee.

The gravity and misfortune of that breaks my heart, no doubt it breaks his too.

And if this world had takebacks and do-overs, I'd rather go back in time to edit your ability to post trash, than change a single thing Jack Jones ever did as a Tennessee Vol.

Jack's efforts in that 2015 game against Georgia will not be forgotten. The day we broke the streak had alot to do with that freshman protecting Dobbs in that second half.

First thing I think of when I hear his name. Dude came in as a freshman (right?) and balled!

Just the other day there were numerous ass clowns ripping on Jones...... shameful

Easy to judge others based on hindsight. No one knew he had ANY injury, let alone one this serious. All people could see was a lack of push on the OL, getting beaten badly in pass protection, and false start penalties. I think anyone with any conscience now feels bad about their criticism of him.

Jack’s Mom:

“Today, Coach Jones released the news that Jack has retired from playing football at The University of Tennessee. Our close friends & family have been traveling this difficult road with us this past week.
•
John & I took Jack to see a specialist last Thursday in Dallas due to on~going neck pain & numbness in his arms & hands that he has been playing with every game this season. We were given the news that he has a form of spinal stenosis....the same thing Cooper Manning, Peyton & Eli Manning’s big brother has, that prevented him from furthering his football career. We were told by a NFL physician, for Jack to continue one more down of football would potentially harm him... permanently. We immediately knew as a family, as much as we love football & the Vols, what our decision was...we value our son... & Jack’s quality of life was of utmost importance. We could never risk permanent nerve damage in his neck, arms & hands. We were broken by the news but also thankful that we found out before any permanent damage was done.
•
We have been watching our two sons, Jack & Pruitt, play football for 15 years, since they were five & six. I also know what a senior season would have meant to Jack...especially when things are so uncertain right now with the team. Everyone wants to play their senior year. I can sincerely say, growing up in Tennessee, I do not think, there is another player that loved his team more. It is one reason they relied on him so heavily during recruiting & one reason Coach Walt Wells referred to him as “a warrior” when we called to give him the news. Jack continued playing this year trying to please himself & all of us even though he was in severe pain & would experience days of numbness. He was hiding this from us & downplaying it & so once again, I say, I have gratitude for his health.
•
Jack handled the news Thursday so much better than John & I did. He continues to inspire me. He immediately listed things he could do now that student~athletes do not have the time for in college. He stayed positive. I know he will live this new season of college life as passionately as he did football. He was also deeply thankful he received help & had parents who pursued the answers & that he was spared from any permanent physical damage. With his joy for life & charisma, Jack will be fine. As a young boy, Jack always talked about playing college football & dreamed of playing for the Vols & he accomplished those dreams. More reason for gratitude.
•
Are we all looking at a huge hole in our lives? Yes! One can’t miss it, especially when it is bright orange and white😜 but we are forever grateful for our time with The University of Tennessee Football Program. We have met the absolute most wonderful student~athletes, football parents, coaches, coaches’ families, football personnel and Vol fans while being a part of the Vol Family.
•
We would like to thank Coach Butch Jones & his staff for recruiting Jack & for choosing Jack to be a VOLeader. Coach Jones could not have been any more compassionate when we called him with our news Thursday late night. We would like to thank Coach Don Mahoney & Coach Walt Wells who were Jack’s position coaches at UT. We would also like to thank Antone Davis for always being a supportive staff member within the football program. He is all heart. In addition, we would like to thank all of our family members, friends & the people of Murfreesboro who have supported Jack along the way.
•
We still have lots of season left & we will be attending the games with tender hearts. Once you meet the Vol Family, you fall in love with them & they need our love & support. Some of our dearest friends now are a part of the program & we still have two sons who attend UT, Jack Jones and Pruitt Jones...two of the most amazing people I know who are so much more than football players....they are interesting, cool, fun, wonderful human beings to be around so I look forward to following all of their next adventures on The Hill. Thanks for all of the love & support you give them & our family as you do the same.♥️🍊🏈💋 #govols #weheart66 ”

After reading this heartfelt message from his mother one question I have is why wouldn't our trainers and doctors be able to catch this ?

Why would his family have to take him to a specialist in Texas?

Could it be as simple as our doctors here said "we can't find the cause of his pain" and referred his family to other doctors ?

Specialists exist for a reason. Your average trainer and doctor isn't equipped to handle something like spinal stenosis.

Spinal stenosis is tricky and sometimes hard to diagnose. My father had it and it took seeing more than 2 doctors to finally figure it out.

Something very similar stopped me from playing football in my senior high school year. Had lower back pain that took several doctors to figure out. Turned out that there was a spot at the end of my spine that was malformed. The doctor said it indicated that I almost developed spina bifida in the womb, but miraculously my body straightened itself out. Amazing how hard it was for even specialists to finally figure that out. All that to say....this stuff can be really tricky to diagnose. Especially when you have a kid like Jones that doesn't want to quit.

Anybody that thinks they're getting the whole story here is crazy.

I'm not saying there aren't neck issues, only that, like so many things this staff handled everything terribly. UT just lost Boulware, who was healthy btw, over internal politics revolving around Jack Jones.

STILL speculatin'

Listen.

It's easier to judge others based on no info at all, bc one can just assume they know everything about the person they are judging.

This happens every day every where and it's a grave weakness in this society. Everyone rushes to social media to judge every ******n thing the instant it happens with no foresight, insight, or hell, really any 'hindsight' after the fact either. Just gotta scream their poor less-than-face value judgements into the howling void that is the internet knowing full well that their message isn't so much important but that they make the most noise in order to be heard; the loudest monkey is the one that gets the most attention.

It's disgusting and sickening to me that our culture has denigrated into this miasma of screaming emotional children, but when the president is not only part of it but leading the charge, what can one do? Don't be part of it or offer measured, thoughtful responses without the arrogance of assuming you know everything about a situation despite just hearing about it.

Maybe, just maybe, DON'T make snap judgements in the first place but what the f*** do I know eh?

Carry on
