Jabari McGhee's pic on the ticket for the Ole Miss Game.

FIRST AND FARMOST, THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT! Yes, Jabari decided to leave mid year so that he will be eligible in Jan. 2017, may be even earlier! He is anxious to play. Coach Barnes did not allow him to play enough and Jabari felt he was not a good fit for the team anymore. He was being ignored by Barnes. We all know that he was a fouling machine but he did good things on the court, also. Barnes still felt the need for him to sit out! Jabari would have accepted being the sixth man but not playing at all during a game that we were loosing was not any longer acceptable. Jabari was not a problem child, he was academically sound, he was coachable. Coach Barnes did not want to utilize the bigs. He wanted to play the outside game. Coach Barnes would make Jabari go one on one with Alexander, Kasongo and Schofield to make them tougher. Then when its game time, he played those guys and not Jabari. JB wasn't going down like that. He discussed transferring with Barnes. Barnes respected his decision. Jabari left without any ill will.

Thanks for the reply. I enjoyed his hustle on the floor. I hope he does well and will be watching. Thanks to you and Auntee Dee for staying around. The morons around here can get pretty nasty sometimes and you both have stood up to it well.

Jabby or Auntee Dee,

I was/am a big fan of JM. I really hated to see him go but I do have a question. If you don't feel comfortable answering, I completely understand. Why was it necessary for Jabari to transfer mid year? Could he not have stuck it out until the end of the spring semester to see how it played out? Was it so he'd be eligible in January of '17?

It's okay. I have no problem answering. Jabari was not comfortable with Rick Barnes and did not want to wait until the end of the season. He was looking ahead and making the best decision for what was best for him. Had he stayed he would have given up a 1/2 year of eligibility and the opportunity to play next season. He did not want to sit out an entire year.

Thanks. We appreciate the support and most of all your understanding. It's unbelievable how folks think he just deserted the team. He did was best for him. Any other guy on this team would have done the same thing had they been in Jabari's position. He talked with most of his teammates before he even talked to Barnes about transferring. They gave him their blessing and told him to do what he had to do.

Unlike you, Most here just speculated about what happened and ran with it. Spreaded wrong and ill information, dogged him, said he wasn't willing to work hard and that he was uncoachable. Wow! Just wait and see...

So this was all about playing time?
There would have been ample opportunity to play if he would have stuck with it.

Playing time was not all it was about. There were other factors as well. Some that we don't care to discuss. You can rest assure it was all about Barnes.

I'm just disappointed he didn't wait it out. Not to offend, but I guess he wasn't a Vol at heart. That's completely understandable, and it's difficult to ask a kid to sit on the bench. Kids want to play, and it's the players right to leave if that's their opinion. I wish him the best.

Thanks and You didn't offend me. It's not about being a Vol at heart. But Why would you stay somewhere you didn't feel needed or wanted.

It doesnt matter how much the fans think you should stick it out or how they say you are not a VFL. At the end of the day when you've given your all and you aren't respected you do what's best for you. Not what's best for Iters.

The guy is a baller. He has played and started since 7th grade and had nothing but hard nose coaches. Never got in any trouble, never disrespectful. Always coachable. He wasnt going to sit out 3-4 games like a walkon. He was putting in work after hours just like Punter. Coach even had him working out with Kyle and Ray. But he felt like Barnes wasn't doing anything to help develop him as a player and when he asked about it he just shrugged him off. So why should he sit around hoping this man would offer him what he offered a select few players. Some say maybe he didn't see anything in Jabari. Well...so be it. All the more reason for him to leave and not sit around wasting eligibility.

Well that's just water under the bridge now. He's at place where he feels comfortable and needed. And most of all where a coach is interested in him enough to work one on one in helping him develop and be ready to compete.

Now many felt he was not D1 material. Said he couldn't hang with the big boys. And that Rick was recruiting over him. All well and good. That's what coaches do. Apparently that is what he was doing. Rick offered to get him into a Jucco. What a joke. Lol. I guess that's what he felt JB was worth. Now that pissed Jabari off Lol. now He may not be in the P5 but at the end of the day he is still D1 and will be ready.

There it is again. Part of one side of the story with the usual cheap shots at the coach. Kind of like the Title IX suit running in the press based only on the plaintiff's complaint.

It is what it is. You just can't handle the truth.

Your coach gives out plenty of cheap shots daily towards his players. Just listen to his media clips. Your friends here in VN post them all the time. As a matter of fact there is an entire thread about it that was wasn't started by me.:good!:

You say that Barnes offered to get McGhee into a JUCO and you call that a joke. In the same argument you said that McGhee didn't want to sit on the bench, help develop more talented players, and wanted more one on one attention from the coaches - all of that could happen at a JUCO. Plus wouldn't a player transferring to a JUCO be able to play immediately?

A freshman in the SEC unhappy with playing time when he was given 10, 15, 20 minutes per game most games? Smh.

Shake your head. If Jabari wanted JUCCO he could have gone there instead of coming to UT. He didn't need Rick Barnes to offer to HELP him get there. That was meant to be a slap in his face that backfired on him. He didn't want to see him get the D1 scholly. But he got it anyway...without his help.

Backfired? And you think that Barnes gets his jollies by figuratively slapping players in the face and denying them D1 scholarships? Like I said... we're hearing part of one side of a biased story.
