With Mapu getting off his 2-year mormon is he in your 2-deep? Will he be ready to play?

Thanks

You would expect him to be in the mix, but I don't think anybody really knows for sure since, as far as I know, he won't be back on campus until Fall practice.

Mapu will be in the 5 man rotation at DT no matter what shape he's in.

Mapu will return to school during the second half of summer school. He seems to be in good condition but a 2 year absence means he will likely have a lot of work to do to get back in the rotation. We have quite a few experienced and quality returning DL this season that have continuity on the field either at UT or as a Juco. Depth is still a plus for us across the DL even with the loss of Haralson and others.

One thing's for sure...we cannot have too many playable DL. His return is a plus!

Bolden is not showing the coaches he's ready to play and Dan Williams needs a really good summer to get in the rotation.
Right now UT has to have Mapu to have a 5 man rotation.

Mapu hasnt even lifted weights in 2 years, i doubt he will be ready. You lose muscle so fast, no way he will get D1 strength back that fast.

Doesn't matter, Mapu has to play or UT is in trouble at DT.

Look who you have
Harrell
McGlothlin (walk-on)
McBride (Injury prone)
Ash (Can he keep his mouth shut)
Mapu (Back from Mission)

Bolden won't play unless light comes on
D. Williams needs work but light is on

Does explain why Fulmer decided to give ash a second chance.

IDK I have always found it really easy to put strength back on quickly, espically when you have had it before. im sure the kid has done pushups or something to kinda keep himself in shape. Im sure with UT's training program he will be fine by fall..

do you play D1 football? Do you squat 500 or bench 400?

McGlothlin was a walk-on coming in but started all most every game his sophomore season. He could take the job pretty well, he played very good in the scrimmage.

You don't know how is chemically enhanced body will hold up. He spent a year off the team for using "ehancements".

Do you have a clue?
Do you? He spent all his high school and early college career getting as strong as he was what makes you think he can get ready in about 3-4 months he has at the most?

I dont think Mapu will be ready, he will probably still have his mind on the morman trip because he probably hasnt had his mind on football, and like mattvols said, he probably hasnt lifted weights

mattvols you are wrong. it is so much easier to regain muscle that you once had than when you first start lifting weights. i play high school football and i had a shoulder injury and was out for six months and when i was allowed to lift again i could barely get up 135. but after 2 months i was up to where i was to start off with at 285. i spent almost 3 years in the weight room to get it up to that and i got it back in about 2 months. you have no clue. it is much easier to regain muscle that you once had than get it from scratch.

if there are NCAA restrictions on time in the weight room he wont have a long time to get ready. We still dont know if he is in playing shape or hasnt gotten fat and slow. He has taken two years off not two months so we dont know.

Well - the last time we visited this topic - it was reported that he was in excellent shape - and I believe I even read a quote from his dad stating the same thing.

That may be true as a team or with coaching supervision but I am certain that an individual is not limited by the NCAA on how often he can work out.

Of course not, and even if there were how would they be enforced?

When I was in high school I met a guy on a mission (in Tn go figure) who wanted to play football for BYU at the end of the mission. He literally spent every day working out at the high school gym. He took the 2 years off as an opportunity to better himself physically. I wouldn't be surprised if Mapu isn't stronger.

Well, the last time mormans came by our house on their 2 year mission while I was growing up, they rode bikes. So, if they still do that as once required, it stands to reason that his conditioning would be excellent. Ride a bike for two years everday, everywhere, and write back and tell us if you are fat and out of shape. Really, has anyone ever seen a morman on their mission riding in cars, sitting on their butts, and getting fat and lazy. Use a little sense and don't assume just because someone took a religious retreat for a while that they got sorry.
