J Jennings Dismissed from UT

separate incidents -- WHy exactly did Kelly say no ? And Currie giving that oaf Hoke the ok to dismiss JJ shows he doesnt care about winning

Ok so...

Link to a factual story proving Kelly said no?

As for JJ, so we should just let players run amock and do whatever they want?

I think the opposite. One man doesn't make a team. JJ may be good on the field, but not much of a student and teammate. He hasn't shown up for games, and apparently classes either. Smoking a little weed in the Fort. As harmless as that seems, it all adds up.

As for winning - The Butch Jones era is a good example of how lack of accountability and discipline actually produce losses instead of wins. How many times did the OL false start inside the 5? Most undisciplined team I've ever watched, and I've been watching the VOLS a long time, and... a loss to Vandy will be the worst season in history. I hope the next coach has the balls to hold players accountable. What you are witnessing here is the back end of 5 years of decline.

Did JJ commit a crime ? Sounds from some ex players Jones wasnt a saint either -- using Marlin Lane as an enforcer

These young men are not employees of the University.

JJ was a very talented football player that chose to commit 3 or 4 years of his football career to the University of Tennessee. His commitment along with the commitment from all of the players on the roster has not been upheld by the coaching staff(s) that have been in place.

JJ was wrong for what he did, but comparing it to an employee and employer is unfair.

Stop acting like everyone should coddle these players and tolerate their stupidity just because they are great athletes. There are standards and a coach is responsible for upholding those standards regardless if it’s his first day on the job or his last.

No need to wonder why Kelly turned down the job now ---

Not wondering at all. It's been widely reported that Kelly wants back in the Pac12. It's the only place where his offensive schemes thrive. A dead cat on a tricycle could score against a Pac12 conference team.

I️ completely agree that we should hold these kids to a high standard, and JJ did not uphold those standards and he is paying he consequences.

However, it seems that his frustration stems from the coaching staff not upholding the primary standard that they get paid to uphold...winning.

You telling me Hurd didnt contribute to some of those 9 wins last year? You may want to go back and remind yourself

Maybe.

Last year's team could have done better without him, if he had left before the season. Leaving during the middle of a game, causing a Fr RB to come in to get a sack fumble. He didn't read the Quick slant like Dobbs did. He was still running a play that calls form him to either fake a hand off or take a hand off. Either way, Dobbs was trying to make a quick throw to a slant while RB was knocking the ball out if his hands. It reminds me of the player that ran out onto the field against Florida 2015. We get a penalty have to burn a time out all because another player yells something at him, then he runs to the field.

He wasn't paying attention. The other player, either did it as a joke or he wasn't paying attention too. That's pee wee stuff there.

Hurd was like Arian Foster with less significant fumbles. AF seemed to fumble in losses. JH fumble in the GA game, but we won in tramatic fashion, so it's not as bad. Had he not fumbled, the Hail Mary may have never happened.

We were 2 for 3 on Hail Marys under Butch.

When JH quit, it rattled the team. PWillie leaving don't help either.

I'm really looking foward to our new HC to fix things quick. With the raw talent on this team and Florida circling the bowl and with Ga rattled by the way Auburn treated them, I don't see why not.

After countless incidents and 3 underwhelming seasons.

He increased his win total each year until this year.

And regardless of the validity of the "incidents", your comment referred to UT allowing the coach to run amuck. Firing the coach is proof that your assertion is incorrect.

In fact, the consistency that you seem to be seeking is actually in play in this situation. Coach does bad things...he is fired. Player does bad things...he is released. All is right and just.

How ridiculous. So you want to condone and excuse any player for taking to social media to blast a coaching staff because they didn’t win enough? This is straight out of the “how to be a millennial” handbook. “I refuse to own my own situations and decisions that don’t work out for me so I’m just gonna go off on insta, that’ll show em.” Jennings got what he deserved and quite frankly, I hope he doesn’t come back.

This is what happens when leadership fails the student athlete.

To an extent. This is a player who showed signs of a poor attitude from the gate...late hits, 15 yard penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, etc. So this poor character display was already there. However, and to your point, we would want strong leadership to recognize this and attempt to guide the youngster in a better direction.

This makes for a fun Nature vs Nurture debate...but for a different time/place.

This topic actually reminds me...who was the RB tgat Fulmer gave a million chances to even after he kept getting drug cases?
