"I was just trying to knock the ball out," Jackson said. "I understand that it's a new rule. For a type of player like me and a lot of other players, it's really not a good rule because what do you want me to do? You want me to push him? You want me to kick him? I'm going to come hit you and try to knock the ball out. That's part of the game."

Exactly, it's football.......I'd knock the hell out of him to. It's the way football is supposed to be played.

He launched himself. It's the rule. Rules change and if you don't adapt then you'll keep losing games like this.

It's one thing to be aggressive, but he launched himself and led with his helmet. They've been harping on this in the NFL and NCAA all season. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know you can't do that.

Agree. If the refs want to officiate badminton, they can do that on their own time. This is football.

Yeh they need to just get it over with and play two hand touch with nerf balls. This over protection stuff is getting a bit ridiculous. Football is dangerous by nature. Men play it for several reasons , but they all know they could get hurt doing it. It's just like race car drivers. They take the risk fully knowing they could get killed doing it.

Led with his shoulder.

It has nothing to do with smarts. It's about instinct. In many situations, it's instinctual for a football player to lower your head. It's difficult to lower your shoulder without the head following. It took me several years to stop hitting my head on a player when I switched to tight end. I would bring my hands up to block the defender and then proceed to slam my facemask against my hands on his pads. It's a bad habit but a difficult one to break.

This. You can't tackle a person with out "launching" at them. Unless they run straight at you.

The key in "launching" is leaving your feet.

You are correct, any contact involves directing and moving yourself at an opponent, but JJ's hit (which should be perfectly legal) involved him leaving his feet and was a low-angle leap with his shoulder lowered towards the receiver.

Enough. I have seen you post this bs on more than one thread... There is no but. The JJ hit was legal as hell. Enough.

What are you talking about? Did you not read the post of mind you quoted?

I have been saying all night long that these new rules on hitting are BS.

helmet to helmet is a penalty on a wr going up for the catch. destroying a wr while leading with your shoulder to force the ball out is part of the game. Big Ten Refs need to take a long hard look at the differences between Football and "futball".
